Background: Dr. Forst, who joined the Shoreline criminal justice faculty in 2001,  retired at the rank of Captain from the Boca Raton (FL) Police Services Department. During her career she spent time in patrol, investigations, training, recruiting and hiring, internal affairs, and support services. The majority of her career was spent in patrol, including a 3-year assignment as Commander of the uniform division during which time she received the "Outstanding Community Service" award for 1994.

She earned her Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, her Master's degree in Community College Education, and her Doctorate in Adult Education from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She is a graduate of the University of Louisville's Sex Crime Investigation school, Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, and Outward Bound.

Dr. Forst has taught as an adjunct instructor at Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach Community College and Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. Her dissertation addressed "Attitudes Toward Rape" and she has written numerous articles on women in law enforcement, crimes against women, community policing, and aging. She is the author of The Aging of America: A Handbook for Police Officers, (Charles C. Thomas publishers, 2000) and she is the co-author, with John S. Dempsey, Introduction to Policing (Wadsworth Publishing, 2004)

Background: Professor Conder has thirty years of experience in the Criminal Justice System.  He was a police officer with the University of Washington Police Department for three years and had a twenty five year career with the Seattle Police Department.  While with Seattle he had many assignments:  patrol officer, vice and narcotics detective, SWAT officer and sergeant, robbery detective and instructor at the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Ken retired at the rank of Lieutenant.  His last assignment was as commander of the Seattle Police Department Domestic Violence Unit.  Ken spent two years working as a Senior Planner in the Seattle Municipal Court.  He is a member of the National Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges faculty.  He served on Gov. Locke’s Child Death Review panel and was chairman of the Greater Puget Sound Domestic Violence Council.  Ken graduated from the University of Washington where he majored in Political Science and Psychology.

Background Professor Tarrant received  his B.A. (1969) and  Ph.D. (1975) degrees in Anthropology from the University of Washington.  He has taught at Shoreline Community College since 1980.  Although his primary teaching responsibilities are in the anthropology program, he also teaches classes in the dental hygiene program and the criminal justice program.  Professor Tarrant teaches our "Forensic Science" class each Spring quarter.   While his own expertise in forensics is in Forensic Anthropology,  he currently teaches the class as a broad overview of  the forensic sciences.


Doug Jeske - Adjunct Professor - Defensive Tactics

Background: Doug Jeske is a Sergeant with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.  He has taught Defensive Tactics at Shoreline Community College since 1995.  Sergeant Jeske is currently assigned to the Organizational Development Division of the Sheriff’s Office, specifically supervising the training unit, fleet management, and quartermaster and has been a full time Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years.  Prior to his current assignment, Doug has worked as a patrol deputy, undercover narcotics detective, property crimes detective, sexual assault detective, and auto theft detective.  He has 16 years experience as a member of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and is currently the team commander and supervises the Marine Unit as well.  He is actively involved in defensive tactics and is an instructor in level one, level two, straight stick, PR-24, OC spray, ground fighting and weapon retention, and the Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint.

Professor Jeske earned his Associate Of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree in Criminal Justice from Shoreline Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

Background: Professor Ott retired from the Everett Police Department due to a disability in 2003 after thirteen years of service. During his career as a sworn police officer with the Everett Police Department, Professor Ott worked as a patrol officer, accreditation manager, background investigator, firearms instructor, less-lethal munitions instructor, D.A.R.E. Officer, and School Resource Officer.  At a more advanced level, Professor Ott has training in crime prevention, accident investigation, and defensive tactics.  Professor Ott graduated from the University of Idaho with a BS in communications and a minor in political science.  He attended the University of Idaho School of Law for one year before receiving his MS with presidential honors in Public Administration from City University in 2003.
