Q. Who can use wireless service at SCC?
A. Anyone who has a laptop with properly configured wireless network card and agrees our network policy (if you have a student email account and password). You must have a student or staff email account to access the wireless network: Click here to activate your account. You can find information on accessing the wireless networks on campus on the SCC website at this location. If you are experiencing difficulty in connecting to or making use of a wireless network, we recommend that you contact SCC's Technology Support Services. If you happen to be on campus, you can visit their offices in room 4122, on the first floor of the library building.

Q. How do I configure my laptop with wireless network card?
A.

·

Configure Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties of your wireless network card by choosing “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”

  · If your wireless network card is not able to pick any available wireless network automatically at SCC, create a profile using wireless network configuration software which came with your wireless network card, and set SSID (Service Set Identifier) to “scc-public” without quote, and use this profile on the SCC campus.

  · Disable WEP setting of your wireless network configuration which you will use on the SCC campus

Windows XP users

  · In the Windows XP Wireless Network Connection settings, you must select the “Allow me to connect to the selected wireless network even thought it is not secure” setting after selecting the “scc-public” SSID.

  · Instead of using third-party configuration tool, you can use Windows XP to configure your wireless settings
