Child Care Professional
Program Description
The Certificate of Proficiency for Child Care
Professionals prepares graduates for employment
in licensed child care settings. Students
learn about the social, emotional and intellectual development
of young children as well as specific strategies for encouraging
healthy development. Students also learn
to develop group activities, plan curriculum and manage
a classroom. Internships provide students with an opportunity
to integrate classroom learning and gain valuable
"hands-on" experience. In addition, students learn effective
strategies for communicating with children and parents
as well as ways to integrate computer technology into
the classroom. The program can usually be completed
in three or four quarters.
Program Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program should
be able to:

Work positively with young children fostering their
development, creativity and self-esteem.

Plan group activities and effectively manage a
classroom.

Work with children developing normally as well as
those with special needs in an age appropriate and
culturally sensitive way.

Effectively communicate with children, parents,
colleagues and educational administrators.

(Academic ESL) or satisfactory ASSET test score or ESL
