The program

The 15-day program will take place in Summer 2020, from June 22 to July 7.

We will fly to the Kansai airport (Osaka area) and take Shinkansen to our first destination, Fukuoka (southern part of Japan), to learn how the Japanese civilization started and learn about its relationship with China and the Korean Peninsula. From there, we will head east to Okayama, Izumo, Ise, Asuka, Nara, and Kyoto to see how Japanese civilization developed.

This is going to be a history tour focusing on the ancient to pre-modern Japan. This trip will be a part of EASIA 218: Introduction to Japanese Civilization course with Mayumi Steinmetz during summer quarter. Students can earn 5 credits for the social science distribution.

The trip cost is approximately $4,350* (this amount covers all flights, internal travel, lodging, admission fees, insurance, and some meals). Tuition is not included.
