Prepare for a four-year Nursing program by completing Shoreline's Pre-Nursing Pre-Major.

Nurses provide direct patient care in a variety of settings. With a broad knowledge of health, wellness and human disease, nurses are trained to care for people, families and communities. Nurses help manage illness and injuries, alleviate suffering, shape health care policy and educate communities in the promotion of good health and prevention of disease.

Part of Shoreline’s General Transfer program, this Major-Related Program includes specific courses to fulfill the requirements of the Associate in Arts – Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) and leads to a specialized degree.

  1. Describe differences and similarities in how people across the globe experience social, cultural, economic, or political systems.
  2. Examine the interactions between societies and individuals.
  3. Apply methods of a specific discipline to interpret an expression of the human experience.
  4. Identify methods scientists use to explain aspects of the natural world.
  5. Use scientific laboratory practices within a field or discipline to investigate a scientific concept.

In addition to the outcomes above, students will gain the skills and knowledge included in Shoreline Student Learning Outcomes (SSLOs): Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Social Justice, Information Literacy, and Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning.

Nurses develop the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of health care settings and related fields. With strong critical thinking, problem solving and technical skills, nurses provide direct patient care, manage health care facilities, conduct research, teach, promote wellness and provide leadership in the health care field. Potential employers include: Hospitals, health care clinics, physician's office, public and private schools, colleges and universities, in-home health care, hospice, government agencies and non-profit organizations.
