Lisa Day Named SCC Volleyball Player of the Week

Sophomore outside hitter Lisa Day, a Ballard High School graduate, wasD30_4059_sc.jpg named the final SCC Volleyball Player of the Week for 2011. Day, the two time NWAACC Northern Region MVP, had 47 kills in the three matches at the NWAACC Volleyball Championship over the weekend at Mt. Hood Community College, including 14 kills in a 2-3 loss to Mt. Hood CC in the second lisa-day.jpground of the tournament, Mt. Hood went on to win the NWAACC Championship. Day also had 4 serving aces, 40 digs and 1 block assist for the weekend.

SCC finished 24-12 on the year and won the NWAACC Northern Region Championship for the second year in a row.

SCC Goes 1-2 At NWAACC Volleyball Championship

The Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team started off strong at the NWAACC Volleyball Championship, defeating Yakima Valley CC in the opening round 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 27-25, 25-11) and going up 2-0 on Mt. Hood CC before the air was deflated from the sails. Mt. Hood came back to defeat SCC 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 26-16, 25-22, 15-10) and send SCC to the Loser's Bracket.

SCC then faced their Northern Region rival, Bellevue College, but lost a tough opening set 28-26 and never came back as they dropped the second set 25-20 and were eliminated from the tournament (Loser Bracket matches are only 2 out of 3).

D30_3589_sc.jpgIn the match against Yakima Valley, 2 time Northern Region MVP, Lisa Day, led the SCC squad with 21 kills in the match while Amanda Arnoux and Hannah Stoeve added 12 and 11 kills to the SCC effort. SCC setter Christine Jenson added 47 assists in the win as well.  In the backbreaking loss to Mt. Hood CC, Lisa day again led the SCC team with 14 kills while freshman Jazmyn Ray added 13 and Amanda Arnoux hit double figures again with 10. But SCC only hit 0.091 has a team, and struggled to get past the MHCC blocks in the final three games.

Against Bellevue, the Lady Dolphins were sluggish to start the game butD30_9266_sc.jpg started a comeback and served for the first set at 24-23, but the Lady Bulldogs fought back and won the opening set 28-26. SCC fell behind the second set by 5 to 6 points most of the way, but did battle back again to get within 2 points, at 22-20, but BC put the Dolphins away to win the match 25-20 in the best of 3 games loser bracket game.


SCC finished the season 24-12 and won the NWAACC Northern Region for the second consecutive year. SCC had 6 sophomore players on the teams, including 2 time region MVP, Lisa Day. SCC finished 1-2 the past two seasons at the NWAACC Volleyball Championship. This was the only back to back NWAACC Northern Region Championships in volleyball history. The SCC women’s soccer team won four straight region championships before.

SCC Volleyball Has Four All-Northern Region Players
The NWAACC Northern Region Champions SCC Volleyball Team placed 2 players on the first team for All-Northern Region and one on the second, plus the Regional MVP. SCC sophomores Christine Jenson, a setter, and middle hitter Hannah Stoeve were named to the 1st Team All-Region Team, along with Lisa Day who was the MVP for the region. Middle Hitter Jazmyn Ray was selected to the 2nd Team.

SCC is currently 23-10 on the season and a #1 Seed at the NWAACC Volleyball Championships that begin Thursday at Mt. Hood Community College. SCC plays Yakima Valley CC tomorrow at 11:30 A
M in the opening round.

SCC Volleyball Has Three Players Chosen For NWAACC All-Star Games
The Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team had three players chosen to play in the NWAACC Volleyball All-Star Games on Sunday in Gresham, WA at Mt. Hood Community College. NWAACC Northern Region MVP Lisa Day along with setter Christine Jenson and middle hitter Hannah Stoeve were picked to represent that NWAACC Northern Region along with 9 other players from division. 

SCC sophomores Laura Postor and Amanda Arnoux were picked as alternates and Arnoux will compete on Sunday in the place of an injured players from Olympic College.
Lisa Day Named NWAACC Northern Region MVP For Second Year

Lisa Day, the sophomore outside hitter from Ballard High School was named the NWAACC Northern Region's Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row. Day was also named to the NWAACC Northern Region All-Star Team.

 

DayIn the two seasons Day has played for SCC, the Lady Dolphins have won two NWAACC Northern Region Championships and have went to the NWAACC Volleyball Championship. The team is 23-10 this season, 8-2 in the Northern Region. Day is also an outstanding student, being named to the NWAACC All-Academic Team as well.

 

The SCC Volleyball Team will start play in the NWAACC Volleyball Championship at 11:30 AM in Gresham, OR at Mt. Hood Community College against Yakima Valley Community College on Thursday. The 16 team double elimination tournament will conclude on Sunday.

 

The NWACC Volleyball All-Star games will be played on Sunday as well.
