Shoreline Community College Women's Soccer Shuts Out Green River Community College 3-0

Shoreline Community College Women’s Soccer team defeated Green River Community College in Auburn today 3-0.  The Dolphins are on a strong push as playoffs are coming up soon. This is the second win over Green River CC this week per an earlier cancellation.

300_7181s.jpgThe Dolphins came out strong today against Green River. Elle Blume played forward for the first time for the Dolphins today and proved to have provided added energy to the team as she contributed two assists. The first of which was converted on a great finish by Angela Celedon in the 38th minute of the game.

The second goal of the game came from one of Shoreline’s aggressive mid-fielders Kayla Browne and was assisted by Kendra Holley. Browne scored again later giving Blume her second assist of the day. Although the goals came frequently to Shoreline today it was not the same case for Green River. Lauren Schoonover was able to put another shutout in the record books.

Shoreline is currently in 3rd place in the region and could clench that spot for playoffs this afternoon depending on how the rest of today’s games finish. The Dolphins record now moves to 8-4-4 on the season. The next game for Shoreline Men’s and Women’s Soccer will be at Dolphin Field on this Saturday, November 3rd. The women will kick off the Sophomore Day’s game at Noon directly followed by the men’s game at 2:15pm.

Rebekah Tenbroek-Hansen Named SCC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

1wsoccer.jpegShoreline Community College is proud to announce Rebekah Tenbroek-Hansen as this week’s Dolphin Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Tenbroek-Hansen has battled injuries all season but that has not stopped her from continually being a part of the team as a sideline supporter and leader.

She recently has been able to get back out on the field. Although, her minutes have been limited you would not know it by the score sheet. Tenbroek-Hansen challenges goalies week after week with her persistent attacks to score. This paid off for SCC yesterday when Tenbroek-Hansen was able to convert on a corner from Sara Gilmore to tie the game against Green River Community College. The Dolphins continued on to win this game.

SCC will be taking on Green River Community College again tomorrow at 2:00pm in Auburn, WA.

Shoreline Community College Women’s Soccer Defeats Green River Community College 2-1

300_8177.JPG

It was a muddy day at Dolphin Field but that did not stop the Shoreline Community College Dolphins or Green River Community College Gators from battling it out down to the last few minutes. Shoreline was able to come away with the win defeating GRCC 2-1.

As a make-up game both teams were eager to play each other. This was seen right away as the game got off to a quick start when in the 7th minute Jessi Crabill of GRCC had a breakaway against the Dolphins. Crabill converted to score the first goal of the game in the one-on-one with SCC goalie Lauren Schoonover.

The Dolphins were not shaken by the early goal and continued to battle. They received many corner kicks in the first half and were able to connect in the 23rd minute. Shoreline Sophomore Sara Gilmore sent the corner to Rebekah Hansen who was able to tap the ball in and tie the game up 1-1.

The game was scoreless for the rest of the first half and most of the second. However, this did not mean that both goalies were not being continually challenged. In the 79th minute Green River’s Darien Cannon fouled Shoreline’s Kayla Browne in the box giving SCC a penalty kick very late in the game. Angela Celedon was able to connect on the penalty kick and give SCC the 2-1 lead.

This win was essential to keep SCC Women’s Soccer playoff hopes alive. They now have a record of 7-4-4. Shoreline will be playing Green River Community College again in Auburn, WA on Wednesday, October 31st at 2:00pm.

Shoreline Community College Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 to Whatcom CC
30S_7385g.jpgToday at Shoreline Field the women' soccer team battled hard. It was back and forth throughout the entire game. Whatcom pulled through in the end with a 2-1 finish.

At the end of the first half the score was 0-0 and both teams were fighting strong. When the second half started you could tell they were determined to score and help to secure their team in the playoffs.

Halfway through the second half Shoreline's Rebekah Hansen went down in the box by a foul on Whatcom's goalie Emily Zimmerman. This gave Sophomore Sara Gilmore a chance to start off scoring on a penalty kick. Gilmore converted with ease.

It looked as SCC women's soccer was going to end with a 1-0 victory but Whatcom was given a surge of energy after a controversial goal that bounced off of the cross-bar and across the goal line. Just two minutes later Whatcom scored again and secured the victory.

SCC is now 5-3-3 in conference and looks to stay in 4th place in the region. WCC is now 7-1-4 and looks to hold on to the conference 2nd place.

The SCC Women's Soccer team will face Green River on Monday, October 29th at Dolphin Field at 1pm per a make-up game.
