SCC PREHEALTH NOTES BLOG - A NEW RESOURCE FOR STUDENTS
www.sccprehealthnotes.wordpress.com.  It is no secret that many of our students are pursuing a career in health care. In addition to those preparing for Shoreline's Health Occupations Programs, we also have many students taking our classes to prepare for Health Professional Programs at other colleges and universities, such as Ultrasound Technician, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medical School and many others. It is important for pre-health students to be informed of societal and health care issues, stay up to date with changes in prerequisites, and gain experience through community service and direct health care volunteering. The new blog provides students with information about upcoming lectures, volunteer opportunities and more. Students can look these up anytime or subscribe, which means they receive an email notification of new posts. It is on the Health Professional Program Preparation Page (A-Z index)

*************** COLLEGE GALLERY ***************

Karen Hackenberg

February 7 to March 6th, 2012

Strand

Beach-found detritus - PETE water bottles, plastic toy animals, and consumer product packages — are the subject and medium of Karen Hackenberg’s current artwork. Painting in oil and gouache, she meticulously crafts images of commercial beach flotsam. In the Watershed paintings, the artist presents humorous ironic images of our new post-consumer creatures of the sea. Castaways from grocery shelf life, synthetic products proudly and cheerily proclaim their natural rights as they strand and break apart on inter-tidal coasts. As gyres of garbage swirl in the Pacific, plastic becomes the new sand.
