Essay 2 follows all guidelines for essay 1 (same length, purpose, audience, and subject matter), but requires 2 sources minimum cited in the paper, with corresponding works cited page

RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES

 

-         Typed, double-spaced, 10-15 pages long, not counting the works cited page.

-         Follows all MLA guidelines for a parenthetical-reference paper (see MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers for MLA format).

-         Must have persuasive or specific analytical thesis—no mere information summaries.

-         Should intelligently and specifically analyze one aspect of travel or cross-cultural encounter.

-         Project may involve either historical or current issue—or a historical overview leading up to present.

-         Paper may be done as part of a group (three people maximum).

-         Paper must cite at least 6 sources, of which 1 source must be a book and 2 sources must be serious periodicals (any exceptions must be cleared with me).

 

TENTATIVE ASSIGNMENT DUE DATES

1)                  Hypothesis/Rough Outline of Major Points – homework grade.

Due: Tuesday, Oct.  28th.

 

2)                  Tested Thesis Statement/Annotated Bibliography (typed) – double homework

                                                                                                                        Grade.

Due: Tuesday, Nov. 4th.  

 

3)                  Rough Draft – handwritten or typed – 15% of final grade.

Due: Friday, Nov. 14th.

 

4)                  FINAL DRAFT (typed/perfect/works cited) – 25% of FINAL GRADE.

(If group project, one page assessment of all members’ contribution to project also required.)

 

***DUE:  Wednesday, Nov. 26th***

 

5)                  Oral Presentation – 15% of Final Grade

10-15 minute oral presentation of research information to the class.
