The blog has been neglected for the past two weeks while I was out SCUBA diving and mountain climbing. No Internet connection, I hope you understand.
What's been happening:
The campus telephone cable has been cut, rerouted, and reconnected. This procedure involved approximately 2400 individual wires. There were some glitches on the first few hundred pair, but the rest of the cutover went very smooth.
The campus fiber optic cabling, serving the south and west ends of campus, were cut, rerouted, and reconnected. This involved 150 strands of fine glass cable. This cutover went without any problems.
Some reoccurring network anomalies were identified and corrected in the FOSS building yesterday (unrelated to the cutovers). This should put an end to the network outages frequently experienced in registration and cashiering.
