Bandwidth Congestion

Beginning at approximately 2:00 PM today several administrative users reported connection problems.  Bandwidth graphs show a spike in unregulated bandwidth (below).  Further investigation tracked the bandwidth abuse to the public wireless network.  TSS implemented several filters to prevent further abuses.

SYSTEM MAINTENANCE NOTICE
The battery backup system (UPS) for the campus server room will undergo its semi-annual maintenance this Friday, 6/1/2007, between 3:00 and 5:00 PM.  No system downtime is expected, but during this time the server room will be running solely on utility power, with no battery backup.  In the unlikely event of a power failure in the Library, some transient data could be lost.  Please contact Gary Kalbfleisch of TSS (garyk@shoreline.edu or x5813) if you have any questions or concerns.

Work on the Internet bandwidth upgrade has begun

Workers are now laying the groundwork for the installation of the, much anticipated, Internet bandwidth upgrade.  Today they are installing innerduct.  This is a rigid tubing (usually orange) that provides protection for fiber optic cable.  They will also be installing new telephone cable and inter-building fiber optic cable as part of the PUB remodel.  This initial work is expected to take five days to complete.  Another contractor will then follow in two to three weeks to complete the bandwidth upgrade connection.  Stay tuned for further details.
