Router reconfiguration

The campus main router and core switch were reconfigured this morning to resolve the bandwidth problems the campus has been experiencing, as noted in the previous post.   The main campus router was demoted to serve only the LFP campus, and the core switch was reconfigured to serve the primary routing role.   This is a very elegant no cost solution that should resolve all of the outstanding bandwidth issue both for the main campus and the LFP branch campus.  The bandwidth has been throttled back up to 50Mb/s.

Bandwidth Issues

The main campus router that provides connectivity to the Internet, and to Lake Forest Park, is running beyond its capacity and needs to be replaced.  It will likely be a few weeks before this happens.  In the meantime, the campus bandwidth has been throttled down to a level that the router can manage.  As a result, response times for the Internet will be longer.  All campus staff are asked to refrain from accessing streaming content (either audio or video) unless it is in direct support of instruction.

HP3000 Login Issues
Currently users are experiencing a delay from the HELLO prompt until the password prompt appears.  TSS staff are working on the problem.  In most cases you can login and work normally after the password prompt appears which takes about two minutes.
Network Server issues
An issue with server networking caused mail, file, and print services to be disrupted this afternoon.  TSS staff are working to resolve the problem.
