The SCC Testing Center provides a variety of testing
services for potential, current, and returning Shoreline
students, students from other colleges needing a
proctored exam, and those needing to take the GED.
Please call us at 206-546-4608 to schedule an
appointment for all tests except the GED. All GED
sessions (registration and tests) are on a
first-come/first served basis, given the times listed on
the schedule.
If you need reasonable accommodation for the ASSET
test, please contact the Office for Special Services at
206-546-4545. They will need documentation of your
disability. If approved, OSS will arrange for
accommodation with the Testing Center.
To request accommodation for the GED test, please
obtain a Special Accommodation Packet from the SCC
Testing Center.
Please pay all fees prior to testing; the cashier
generally closes at 4:30 pm.
This is a required, computerized placement test for
new students who are entering college for the first time
or returning students who are changing careers.
The test is untimed and assesses abilities in writing,
reading, and mathematics. With this
information, students and their advisor will be able to
increase chances for success by selecting appropriate
classes.
It's advisable to take all three parts at the same
time, but one can take the test in segments if needed.
The test is not timed, but generally takes 1-1/2 to 2
hours for all three segments.
We encourage you to get an appointment for the test
prior to registering for classes.
Compass scores are valid for 3 years.
If your scores are older than 3 years, we
suggest you retake the test.
The test can be taken twice per quarter
with the exception of illness, disruption beyond
control (e.g., earthquake), or unusual extenuating
circumstances.
Materials will be provided during the test
(calculator, pencils). Students can take a break during
the exam ONLY after completing a segment of the test.
Students will immediately be given their test results
after the exam. Keep a copy of your Compass test results
and take them with you when you see an advisor.
If you have a BA or BS degree and
are returning to college to change careers, we suggest
you meet with an advisor because it may not be necessary
for you to take the Compass test.

If you need special/ alternate accommodation to take
the ASSET test (such as extended time), please provide
documentation of your disability to the Office for
Special Services (OSS); call 206-546-5832. If
approved, OSS will arrange accommodation with the

tribal ID).
If you are under 19, you must bring
a completed Request for Approval to Test
GED form, signed by a high school principal or
counselor.
If you began your GED at another testing center, the
fee for each test is $15 (even if you paid $75 at
another college).

have your official scores mailed directly from the
academic institution to the SCC Testing Office (see
address above).
