* SCC Men's And Women's Tennis Teams Finish Last At NWAACC Tennis Championships But Find Individual Success

Blair Stone and Jenny Voss had two singles victories each and won a doubles match together as they scored all 9 points for the Lady Dolphins in the tournament. Blair is a 55 year old SCC student who joined the tennis team last year and Voss played both soccer and basketball for SCC this season as well. Voss just starting playing tennis for SCC a month ago. SCC finished 2-9 for the season.

Sofoniyas Hagos Reaches Men's Finals for Tennis, But Drops Match: Hagos was the number one seed for the tournament, but was hampered by a hurt arm and the move to an indoor court when the rain came to NWAACC Men's Tennis Championship. In the championship match, Sofy dropped the first two sets 6-0 and 7-6 to lose the match. Hagos was 8-2 for the year, both losses coming indoors. SCC finished the season 4-5. SCC scored 17 points in the event.

* The Week in Tennis

The Lady Dolphin Tennis Team traveled to Green River Community College on Friday and came back with a 6-3 victory, after GRCC had to forfeit 5 matches due to the lack of players. Blair Stone won at #3 Singles, 6-0, 6-1 for the only on-court victory for SCC in the match.

 

On Saturday the Dolphins hosted the Community College of Spokane in a dual match and both SCC teams dropped 8-1 matches to the Sasquatch.  SCC #1 Singles players, Christine Yang for the women and Sofoniyas Hagos for the men, won their maches.  Hagos will be the overall #1 Seed at the NWAACC Tennis Championship next weekend in Spokane for the men.  Sofoniyas has a 7-1 record in the NWAACC this season.

 

SCC travels to Spokane next Thursday, to compete in the NWAACC Tennis Championship at the Community College of Spokane courts, May 13-15. The SCC men are 4-5 on the season, while the Lady Dolphins are 2-9.sofia.jpg

* The Week in Tennis

The Shoreline Community College Tennis Teams traveled to Spokane, WA and Ontario, OR over the weekend for 3 matches.

 

In the opening match of the trip, the SCC men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 match to the Community College of Spokane with SCC #1  player, Sofoniyas Hagos, being the lone winner for the SCC squad.  The Lady Dolphins, playing with only 4 players on this trip, lost 9-0 to the Spokane squad.

 

On Saturday, the SCC netters played Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, OR. The Dolphin men’s team pulled out a 5-4 victory over the TVCC squad but the women lost 8-1 to TVCC with SCC #1 player, Christine Yang (from Shorewood High School), being the victor for the Lady Dolphins.

 

On Sunday, the Dolphins faced the College of Idaho on the Treasure Valley campus and the Lady Dolphins dropped a 0-9 match while the men lost 8-1 with Hagos winning for SCC again.

 

The SCC men’s team is now 4-4 for the season while the Lady Dolphins are 1-8. SCC finishes their regular season next weekend as Christine Yang .jpgthe women play at Green River CC on Friday and then both teams host the Community College of Spokane next Saturday at Shoreview Park. Both teams then compete in the NWAACC Championship on May 13-15 in Spokane, WA at the Community College of Spokane.
