Advising for New Students

 

General Information

Shoreline Community College offers professional/technical training that is designed to place students in the workplace after completing a program of study.  Students can get education/training in nursing, dental hygiene, medical coding, purchasing and more.

Students can complete a two year Applied Associate of Arts and Sciences degree (AAAS), a Certificate of Proficiency or a Certificate of Completion in a variety of areas that have jobs.

 

Educational Options

Applied Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAAS)

The primary purpose of the AAAS degree is to provide students with the professional skills that will help them get a job in a specific field of work.  The minimum number of credits varies for each specialized program, but it must be at least 90 credits

 

Associate in Applied Science - T

The Associate in Applied Science-T (AAS-T) is a professional technical degree with a core of general education courses commonly accepted in transfer. In general, professional-technical degrees are not designed for transfer to other colleges or universities. However, several four-year colleges and universities have specific bachelor's degree programs that accept the Associate in Applied Science-T (AAS-T) degree.  Click here to view a list of our programs that are accepted.

 

Certificate Programs

Shoreline offers two different certificate programs: certificate of proficiency and certificate of completion.  A Certificate of Proficiency is obtained after completing one year of study (45-55 credits).  A Certificate of Completion is obtained after completing one or two quarter program (20-44 credits).  Through these programs, students can discover a new professional field or learn new skills that can help them get a job.

 

I-BEST Programs

Shoreline offers Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST).  Students that decide to participate in this program receive instruction from an ESL and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE) instructors as well as a professional-technical instructors.  If interested in this program, students should meet with the ESL, ABE and GED Student Advisor.
