Math 80 Homework assignments:

Note: (1) When assigning homework on a Tuesday, I don’t know exactly how far we’ll get the following Thursday, so there may (and often will) be slight changes to the end of an assignment.  If necessary, I will post changes after class on Thursday or, at the latest, Friday morning, so check this site on Friday afternoon or later to make sure you have the up-to-date assignment.

(2) I will allow time at the beginning of most classes to ask homework questions.  If you would like to ask a question on a problem, please write down the entire problem – including any instructions with come before the problem, if any – since I don’t always bring my textbook to class.

HW 1 (due Tuesday, April 8th):

Note: Since this assignment covers many sections, I have chosen few problems (or none) from each section.  If you feel you need more practice on a particular skill, I encourage you to try extra problems from the corresponding section.

Section 1.1: #15, 17, 26, 27, 35, 39, 43, 46, 51, 54, 61

Section 1.2 #9, 17, 23, 26, 35, 41, 51

Section 1.3 #21, 39, 61, 66

Section 1.4 #35, 37, 39

Section 1.6 #51, 59, 61, 71

Section 1.7 #71, 79

Section 1.8 #55, 59

Section 2.1 #20, 29, 47

Section 2.2 #29, 41, 49

Section 2.3 #5, 9, 15, 18, 23, 24, 37, 43, 45

The above problems must be turned in, but also, please do the following as self-assessment (though you do not need to turn this part in):  Skim the review problems at the end of Chapters 1 and 2.  If these look difficult to you, then you should consider taking (or re-taking) Math 70.  If they look like things you are already comfortable doing, or if you are just a bit rusty and a quick review is sufficient, then you are probably prepared for this class.
