Suggested Materials:

COURSE GOALS: to demonstrate mastery of the following tools and concepts:

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING: You, as a student, will be accountable for learning, helping others to learn and presenting what you have learned in both group and individual activities. You will also be accountable for evaluating what you hear from others in the class. As your instructor, my primary responsibility is to focus your efforts by pointing out the most important questions and issues.

ACCOMMODATION: If you require accommodations, please see me early in the quarter so that we can work together for your success. Examples of accommodations include, using sign language interpreters or recording class sessions. For most accommodations, you must have a documented disability.

GRADES: Since this class includes enough work already, I do not provide extra credit tasks. You must meet deadlines to earn the best grades. I plan to calculate grades with the following weights:
Exams at 60%, Assignments/Quizzes at 30%, Project at 10% for a Total of 100%

Grades of W, I, N/C, V and Z will be assigned in accordance with policies outlined in policy 6260. Be sure to check the published schedule for audits and drops. Student Option grading is available for this course. Please remember that the P (Pass) grade cannot be assigned for averages below 2.0 (75%). See the current policy for deadlines & other details.

EXAMS: There will be three timed examinations including the final. Each exam may have both written (theory) and practical (hands-on) questions. Expect material from the texts, handouts, assignments and lectures. A missed exam may be taken later only under extenuating circumstances, documented (by doctor or employer) or by prior arrangement (subject to a 15% penalty). Anyone may use an English language dictionary for any tests or quizzes

ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments are due at the beginning of class. Any assignments not handed in at the beginning of the assigned class are subject to a 25% penalty until the next exam. After the next exam, late assignments are subject to a 50% penalty.

Do not use cover sheets or binders for assignments or projects; just staple the required pages together.  For full credit make sure the following items are printed by the computer on everything you hand in: Your name, Course name and time, Instructor’s name, the date, and Exam number, version number or Assignment number, Assignment part, question number, etc.

Preparation and Attendance:

QUIZZES: Quizzes may be given anytime. You will not be able to "make up" any quizzes that you miss.

LAB RULES: Get your computer-validated library card. Display this card when you use a computer outside your regular class time. If working as a guest in another class, be (hardly) seen and never heard. Lab schedules are posted outside each lab. More open lab sessions are added as the quarter progresses. Check frequently for updated hours, etc. You can find schedules (and changes) for all labs at http://elmo.shore.ctc.edu/tss/computer.htm.
Law, school or department policy prohibits the following behaviors in the computer labs:

Class Expectations:

WEATHER: Listen to KIRO, KING or KOMO radio or television stations for broadcasts of Shoreline Community College closures. If no mention is made of Shoreline Community College (not to be confused with the Shoreline School District) assume that the college is open. In any case, follow the class schedule to prepare for the next class.
