CHEM& 121, Intro to Chemistry Basic
chemistry to supplement/replace high school chemistry or
for non-science majors. Mandatory two hour lab is taken
concurrently. Previously CHEM 101. Prerequisite: MATH
099 with a 2.0 grade point or better, and placement into
ENGL 100 or ESL 100 or instructor permission.
CHEM 171, General Inorganic
Chemistry I First course of three quarters of Gen. chem.
for science and engineering majors. Course includes
lecture and seminar. Previously CHEM 140. Prerequisite:
Recent high school chemistry of CHEM& 121 with a 2.0 or
better, and English 100, ESL 100 or placement into ENGL&
101, and placement into MATH& 141; or instructor
permission.
Math and English prerequisites are
checked by the SCC database at the time of registration.
You may also use COMPASS placement scores for placement
and appropriate scores are recognized by the database.
These prerequisite courses do not have a time limit.
Thus, if you have taken these courses at SCC or are
currently taking them or have appropriate COMPASS scores
in our database, you will be able to register for the
next level without needing further approval.
If you have taken the prerequisite or COMPASS test at
another school, that information may not be in
Shoreline's database. Please send an official transcript
or test scores to our Records Office so that the
information can be entered into the SCC database. If
registration for the next quarter is already happening,
the quickest way to get registration access for CHEM 121
or 131 is to contact the Science Division academic
advisor or one of the chemistry professors and show your
transcript and/or test score:
