20, 2006 SCC Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance
offers The Clothesline Project
November 27 – December 1, 2006 Shoreline, WA ─ The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance at Shoreline Community College, along with several Women's Studies students and the Multicultural and Women's Center are sponsoring "The Clothesline Project" at the main campus, November 27th through December 1st, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The “Clothesline Project” is a visual display that calls attention to violence against women. The project displays shirts designed by women survivors of violence and families and friends of women victims of violence. The shirts hang side-by-side to "Break the Silence" and to bear witness to violence against women. The project focuses on providing healing for survivors of violence, educating the public about violence, and providing solutions through individual action to prevent violence.

SCC is selected as northwest regional satellite campus

Shoreline, WA — The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) recently selected Shoreline Community College as their northwest regional satellite Grammy University (Grammy U) Network campus. Grammy U is a not-for-profit organization that supports college students pursuing careers in the music industry. SCC is one of only a dozen colleges across the country to be selected as a Grammy U campus. NARAS is best known as the organization that presents the televised Grammy Awards

Shoreline, WA ― Gypsy Soul performs at Shoreline Community College at
7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 11th in the Campus Theater. The group will
perform songs from their new CD, “Beneath the Covers: A Rediscovery” on the CD
pre-release tour. General admission is $18, $16 for seniors and students, and
$14 for SCC students with College ID and kids 14 and under.

SCC and Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition
Co-host Odyssey Days
A public event to heighten public awareness on energy independence and clean air
via alternative fuels and advanced technologies
OCTOBER 13-14, 2006
Shoreline, WA — On October 13-14, 2006, Shoreline Community College and the
Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition (PSCCC) will co-host 2006 Washington State
Odyssey Days, a two-day event to heighten public awareness about reducing carbon
emissions to produce cleaner air, energy independence and security, and economic
opportunity through the use of alternative fuels and advanced technologies. The
event, to be held at the main campus of Shoreline Community College, will also
support the creation of an in-state industry based on domestically-produced
fuels as sources of renewable energy. Guest speakers, workshops and exhibits
will be included.

WSU selects SCC as site for
flagship NW Solar Center demonstration/test facility
Shoreline, WA ― In early September, Shoreline Community College (SCC) will
become the home for a solar house designed and built by students at Washington
State University in 2005. The house was entered as part of an international
solar decathlon competition to demonstrate the advantages of a solar lifestyle.
The structure will serve as a demonstration/test facility of the Northwest Solar
Center (a WSU program) as well as a nucleus site for the development of
curricula in alternative fuels, energy conservation, and renewable energy
systems at SCC.

New ATCO website supports
technology-based careers in automotive industry
Shoreline, WA — A new website has been launched to help reverse a serious
decline in the number of automotive workers across the state of Washington. The
new ATCO (Automotive Training & Career Opportunities) website, located at
www.shoreline.edu/atco, provides information on technology-based
automotive and automotive technology training programs (including pathways and
career ladders) and career options in automotive sales and service throughout
the state. The site was created as part of the President’s High Growth Job
Training Initiative, a strategic plan to prepare workers for jobs in expanding
industries of the U.S. economy.

SCC appoints Stuart Trippel
Acting Vice President Administrative Services
Shoreline, WA -- Stuart Trippel has been appointed Acting Vice President for
Administrative Services at Shoreline Community College, effective September 1,
2006 through June 30, 2007. Trippel will work with the college to address the
budget, enrollment, and facilities challenges under the new leadership of
President Lee D. Lambert, appointed by the Board of Trustees July 1, 2006.
Trippel has six years experience teaching accounting at Shoreline Community
College as an affiliate faculty member. In addition, he has 20 years experience
as a management consultant and consulting economist in the field of regulated
industries, where he has performed economic analyses, capital budgeting studies,
and cost allocation studies, and provided expert witness services in these
areas.

SCC to receive funding for Opportunity Grant
pilot project for low income students
Shoreline Community College is one of 10 community colleges
in the state to receive funding from the State Board for Community and Technical
Colleges for a new program to provide workforce education for low-income
students, especially those with limited English and basic skills proficiency.

August 10, 2006 Bernice Vonnegut appointed AVP for Human Resources
at Shoreline Community College Shoreline, WA ― Bernice Vonnegut has been appointed Acting Vice President for
Human Resources and Employee Relations at Shoreline Community College, effective
August 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. Vonnegut will facilitate current faculty
negotiations and the College's transition/restructure under the new leadership
of President Lee D. Lambert, appointed by the Board of Trustees July 1, 2006.

July 10, 2006 SCC Board of Trustees approves Master Plan/FEIS &
forwards documents
to the City of Shoreline The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was approved by
the Board of Trustees at their monthly meeting, Wednesday, June 28th at the Lake
Forest Park campus. The College completed this process to assess the potential
development impacts caused by future physical growth of the campus (to meet the
needs of the College and its students) to surrounding neighborhoods.

Gidget Terpstra was elected Chair by the Board of Trustees of Shoreline
Community College on June 28, 2006. She was appointed as a trustee by the
Governor in July 2004 and served as Vice Chair of the Board in 2005-2006.

2006 Shoreline Community College launches Honors Program
Shoreline, WA — A new program for students interested in broadening
their college experience will be launched at Shoreline Community College (SCC)
this fall, thanks in part, to a generous gift from Walter and Denise Day of
north Seattle. The SCC Honors Program is well-suited for students who plan to
transfer to a four-year university or who desire a more challenging curriculum.

Institute Shoreline, WA ―Matt Houghton, project manager of the Automotive Sales and
Service Training Pathway project at Shoreline Community College, has been

Institute in Chicago.

training classes this summer for those interested in environmentally friendly
alternatives to petroleum-based transportation.

Shoreline Community College offers wine appreciation classes with an emphasis on
wine’s relationship to place and culture, as well as “lips on” training.
Instructor Jeff Omalanz-Hood has been a gourmet cook and wine connoisseur for
over 18 years. Classes meet on Shoreline Community College’s main campus at
16101 Greenwood Avenue North.

13, 2006 Name That Film! Unique film sound production class at SCC
Shoreline, WA ― Shoreline Community College offers a summer Certificate
Program in Digital Performer, a premiere MIDI and digital audio sequencing
program. In this 15-credit intensive recording workshop, students learn the
intricacies of recording digital audio, creating sound effects and recording
dialog for a major motion picture. Students get first-hand experience in audio
consoles and their use, mixing control surfaces, microphone technique, sound
design, automated dialog replacement and film mixing. This four-week intensive
course is offered only during Summer Quarter, and Shoreline Community College is
the only college in the state of Washington to offer this kind of class.

2006 Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees Names Dr. Lee Lambert President Shoreline, WA ― At the June 9, 2006 special meeting of the Board of Trustees of
Shoreline Community College, the Board voted to appoint Dr. Lee Lambert as the
new President, effective July 1, 2006. The Board unanimously approved Dr.
Lambert’s appointment for a term of three years at an annual salary of $175,000.

7, 2006 Shoreline Community College GM instructor achieves World Class Technician status Shoreline, WA – Patrick Koenen, an instructor and graduate of Shoreline
Community College’s (SCC) GM-ASEP Program, has achieved World Class Technician
status, the highest ranking for achievement in GM service. This accomplishment
places Koenen among the most knowledgeable and skilled GM technicians in the
country. This is not only an accomplishment for Koenen, but a great opportunity
for SCC GM-ASEP students.

graduate Heather Evans receives UW President’s Medal Shoreline, WA—
Heather Evans, a graduate of Shoreline Community College in 2003, will receive
the President’s Medal from University of Washington President Mark Emmert this
Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the university’s 131st commencement ceremony. This
award is given to one university transfer student each year who demonstrates
academic excellence while at the UW. Shoreline Community College (SCC) Interim
President Lee Lambert will join President Emmert for this presentation.

May 25, 2006 SCC New Orleans relief team presents: Did you see the levee break? Tuesday, May 30, 8:30am – 2:30pm Shoreline, WA — Malik Rahim, New Orleans resident and co-founder of Common
Ground Collective, a grassroots organization started to help rebuild New
Orleans, discusses the racism, violence, corruption and criminal neglect
experienced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, at Shoreline Community College
from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 30th in the PUB. Rahim joins a
delegation of Shoreline Community College students, faculty and staff that
traveled to New Orleans to help in the relief efforts, and former Black Panther
leader, Aaron Dixon, who will speak from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Hour-long
presentations will be made from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

May 15, 2006 Shoreline CC hosts 2nd annual American Sign Language competition Shoreline, WA ― The ASL (American Sign Language) Club at Shoreline Community
College (SCC) hosted the annual ASL Bowl (a silent ASL competition for high
school students), Saturday, May 6th at the main campus of the College. A total
of four high school teams participated, with approximately 150 students
competing from Edmonds Home School Resource Center (2 teams), Everett High
School (2 teams), Mountlake Terrace and Stanwood high schools. The Mountlake
Terrace students won first place Edmonds Home School Resource Center’s teams
took second and third place.

May 15, 2006 Shoreline CC nursing students receive scholarships Shoreline, WA ― Shoreline Community College (SCC) nursing students, Christy
Scholtes (Seattle resident) and Ijeoma Ezeokeke (Lynnwood resident) were awarded
scholarships at the King County Nurses Association annual meeting and
scholarship banquet on May 3rd a the Burke Museum. SCC nursing graduates,
George Baxter, RN and Keith Koga, RN, also received scholarships from KCNA. SCC
nursing faculty Lynn Von Schileder and Linda Barnes attended the event as did
fellow SCC nursing students, Tabitha Burns, Matt Holzknecht and Margaret Randell.
Baxter will enter the CNS Masters Program at the University of Washington next
fall.

Ridlington of the U.S. Marine Band and the Einstein Middle School Band
Shoreline, WA — The Shoreline Concert Band performs a concert
(directed by Ken Noreen) with guest performances by Gregory Ridlington of the
U.S. Marine Band, the Around the Sound Community Band (directed by Mike Irons),
and the Einstein Middle School Band (directed by Frank Halferty) at 7:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, May 23rd at the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center.

Shoreline Community College joins
City of Seattle as founding partner of
Seattle Climate Partnership
Shoreline, WA — Shoreline Community College (SCC) has joined the City of Seattle
as a founding member of the Seattle Climate Partnership. The partnership will be
modeled after the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement in which
participating employers commit to a series of actions to reduce their own
greenhouse gas emissions and help achieve community-wide targets to reduce
carbon dioxide and greenhouse emission and their effects on global warming.
Partnership members will work with local government on solutions to protect our
environment, and consequently, our economy.

Center of Manufacturing Excellence at
Shoreline Community College
receives funding for four more years
Shoreline, WA — Representatives from the State Board for Community and Technical
Colleges (SBCTC), Instruction Commission, Workforce Education Council, industry,
and directors from the Center of Excellence, recently completed an assessment on
the progress of the Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME), located at
Shoreline Community College.

Shoreline CC student wins engineering
student paper competition
Kenmore resident and Shoreline Community College (SCC)
engineering student Jeromy Kostner took first place for his presentation of a
human-powered paper vehicle in a student paper contest hosted by the Western
Washington American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at Seattle University
last month. Participants presented engineering projects and fielded questions
from judges. Competitors were judged for content, organization, delivery and
effectiveness, and discussion of their presentation. Kostner competed with
students from the University of Washington, Seattle University and Green River
Community College.

2006 SCC College Gallery to showcase sculpture by Lanny Bergner
Shoreline, WA — The Shoreline Community College Gallery features the suspended
and pedestal sculptures of Lanny Bergner April 4 – 29, 2006. Using hands-on
processes of fraying, twisting, wrapping, gluing and connecting, Bergner
transforms common screens, wire, silicone, glass frit (fused material used in
making glass) and gourds into art pieces.

Shoreline Community College invites the public to a festival to celebrate student learning & program success
Shoreline, WA — Shoreline Community College holds its second annual
Shoreline Splash: A Festival of Learning, an open house to showcase student
learning and the academic accomplishments of students. The event will be held
from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 12th.
March 16, 2006 SCC students help Katrina victims during spring break
Shoreline, WA ― A group of SCC students, faculty and staff will travel to
New Orleans during spring break to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. The
College club, the SCC Rebel Alliance, organized the delegation to help in the
relief effort. More than 18 students are participating. The Black Student Union
and Hip Hop Club have also collaborated on the project. Endorsers include ILWU,
Teamsters Local 174, AFSCME Local 304, SEIU Local 6, Philip Randolph Institute
(Seattle chapter), African American Longshore Coalition, LELO, MLK County Labor
Council and Million Worker March Movement, Seattle committee. The group will
leave March 22 and return April 2, 2006.
February 21, 2006 SCC performs annual Opera Workshop Performances March 2 - 4, 2006
Shoreline, WA ― An adapted version of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss,
Jr. is the one-act opera that that will be performed at the 2006 Opera Workshop
Performances at Shoreline Community College, March 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 7:30 p.m.
in the Campus Theater. The production will be fully staged and costumed, with
approximately 30 music students participating.
February 14, 2006 Shoreline Community College launches
alternative fuel vehicle training center Senator Maria Cantwell Supports Advanced, Clean Energy Program Shoreline, WA — Shoreline Community College (SCC) has been selected by the
National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) as the site of Washington
State’s new National Training Center. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA)
congratulated SCC representatives in Washington, D.C. last week, saying that
“People love their cars. The solution to our country’s energy independence may
lie in using cleaner energy sources to power our cars and building public
awareness of the benefits. Shoreline Community College’s Automotive Program is
well-positioned for this important initiative.”
February 10, 2006 Developmental English Program wins national award Overall, only four two year colleges in the entire country were selected for
recognition. The achievement will be noted in a national journal, Teaching
English in the Two-year College, and on the TYCA web site. Shoreline will be
honored at the TYCA Breakfast at the CCCC (Conference on College Composition and
Communication) Convention in Chicago on March 25th, 2006.

March 1, 2006 Shoreline, WA — Egyptian American documentary film director, Jehane Noujaim will
lecture at Shoreline Community College at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2006. Noujaim is best known for her films, Control Room and Startup.com. Her
appearance is a part of the College’s 2005-06 Robert E. Colbert Lecture Series.

Shoreline, WA — The Robert E. Colbert Lecture Series at
Shoreline Community College brings feminist authors and
activists, Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards to campus at
7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9th in the gymnasium. They
have lectured at Vanderbilt University, the University of
Michigan, and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government as well as
many other venues.
January 9, 2006 SCC students named to All-USA Academic Team Shoreline, WA —Shoreline Community College (SCC) honor students Kelly Apling and
Tahoma Khalsa have been named to the 2006 All-Washington Academic Team. Both
students are residents of Shoreline. The team is sponsored each year by Phi
Theta Kappa, USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges to
recognize community college students who excel academically and possess
leadership qualities.
December 31, 2005 SCC College Gallery to showcase creative ceramics by Teri Silva Shoreline, WA — Birds of a Feather, a ceramics exhibit by Teri Silva of Sedro-Woolley,
will be on exhibit at the Shoreline Community College Gallery from January 3rd
through the end of the month. Humorous and thoughtful, Silva’s exhibit features
the crows that congregate near her rural studio. She invites her audience to
bring their knowledge and experience of crows to the objects.
December 20, 2005 SCC Automotive Program to receive $10,000 grant from DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund Shoreline, WA — The Automotive Program at Shoreline Community College will
receive a $10,000 grant from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. These funds
will be used to purchase shop equipment, laptop computers, diagnostic scan
tools, and storage systems for specialty tools and supplies for the students in
the DaimlerChrysler College Automotive Program (CAP) at Shoreline. With this
funding, the College will be able to provide the latest technologies for
students to learn on firsthand. New curriculum will also be developed and the
College will conduct career day recruiting fairs.
December 15, 2005 SCC partners with Swedish Medical Center and
Service Employees International Union 1199NW to train Registered Nurses
In 2003, the long-standing national shortage
of registered nurses spurred Swedish Medical Center to partner with Shoreline
Community College (SCC) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 1199NW
to develop and provide a new innovative program to train people already working
in health care to become RNs. The Healthcare Career Advance Program (H-CAP) was
launched at SCC as a pilot project to train nurses using a combination of online
learning and a traditional clinical practicum.

Dr. John Terrey donates Wyeth
etchings and personal affects to Shoreline Community College Shoreline, WA — Dr. John Terrey and his wife, Elizabeth, residents of Richmond
Beach, have donated a collection of prints, books and videos of American
painters, N.C. Wyeth, his son, Andrew, and grandson, James (Jamie) Wyeth to the
Ray W. Howard Library at Shoreline Community College. Dr. Terrey, who has taught
classes on the Wyeths at the College’s Summercollege for Seniors for many years,
formally presented the gifts to the Shoreline Community College Board of Trustee
at the December 7th board meeting.

SCC music instructor Jensina Byington is selected to perform with UW University Symphony Orchestra Shoreline, WA — After two rounds of auditions, Shoreline Community College
piano, class piano, music theory and ear training instructor Jensina Byington
was recently selected as a winner of the UW School of Music’s Concerto
Competition. She was accompanied by Shoreline CC’s staff accompanist, Dr.
Charles Enlow. Other winners included two additional pianists, a violinist and
an oboist.
November 14, 2005 Shoreline Community College Literary Magazine,
Spindrift
Wins First Place in National Competition Shoreline, Washington—The 2005 edition of Shoreline Community College’s Art and Literary Journal, Spindrift, has been awarded first place for the Pacific-Western region of the Community College Humanities Association (CCHA) literary magazine competition. The art and literary anthology was selected from literary and art submissions from community colleges in California, Alaska, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Montana and other western states.

21, 2005 SCC participates on Life Sciences/Bioscience skills panel for Puget Sound region Shoreline, WA — Shoreline Community College (Shoreline CC) has
partnered with Seattle-King County Workforce Development
Council, Bellevue Community College, the Puget Sound Regional
Council, Prosperity Partnership and the Seattle-King County
AFL-CEO to develop a comprehensive Life Sciences/Bioscience
action plan for the Puget Sound region to ensure that Washington
state’s workforce remains competitive.
October 14, 2005 Lee Lambert appointed by Board of Trustees as Interim President
at Shoreline Community College Shoreline, WA —
At the October 13th
special meeting of the Board of Trustees of Shoreline Community College, the
Board announced the appointment of an interim president. Dr. Lee
Lambert, Acting President and Vice President of Human Resources, will assume
the position effective immediately. Notes Board Chair Elsa Welch, “Lee
has demonstrated his ability to provide critical leadership to stabilize the
institution. We are looking forward to working with him to advance the
mission of the College.”
