SCC performs annual
Opera Workshop Performances
March 2 - 4, 2006
Shoreline,
WA ― An adapted version of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Jr. is the one-act
opera that that will be performed at the 2006 Opera Workshop Performances at
Shoreline Community College, March 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus
Theater. The production will be fully staged and costumed, with approximately 30
music students participating.
The one-act, Die Fledermaus, adapted and translated by Shoreline
CC music faculty, Catherine Treadgold, will be performed with a chamber
orchestra. Bastien and Bastienne, Cosi Fan Tutte, and The Magic Flute will be
featured to honor of the 250th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Scenes from
Wuthering Heights and Macbeth will also be performed. Susan
Dolacky is producer and music director. Paul Linnes is director; Frederick
Lokken, conductor, Charles Enlow, pianist; and Robert Bigley is chorus master.
“We are fortunate once again to have assembled a terrific cast
of young singers,” says Dolacky. “The scenes have something for everyone, from
Mozart to the seldom-seen contemporary opera Wuthering Heights. In our
adaptation, Die Fledermaus has been condensed to a fast-paced hour of Strauss’s
beloved operetta, with its witty, champagne-inspired madness and glorious
waltzes. It's the perfect way to introduce newcomers to opera.”
General admission is $12, $10 for seniors and college students, and $8 for
children 14 and younger and SCC students with college ID card. Tickets can be
purchased in advance by calling 206.546.4606 or at the Cashier’s Office in the
FOSS Building. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The college is located at 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, west of Aurora Avenue
and just north of Seattle city limits. For information about the Music Program,
