Text Messaging FAQ

How do I opt-in to receive text messages from Shoreline Community College?

Students and employees can opt-in by providing a text-enabled phone number via the self-service web portal at www.shoreline.edu/connect. Currently, the service is available only to students and employees.

What happens after I sign up for text messaging at www.shoreline.edu/connect?

After you sign up online, the service will automatically send a text message to your mobile phone to confirm your request. This occurs between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. PST.

What will the confirmation message say?

The confirmation message will read the following:

[AbbrevName]: You are set to receive txt alerts per acct settings. For more info reply "HELP". To opt out, reply "STOP [Account Code]" Msg&data rates may apply

What if I type back "HELP"?

If you type back HELP, you will receive the message:

Bb Connect notifications. Msg freq per acct settings. For more info www.blackboardconnect.com/sms, sms@blackboard.com. To opt-out text STOP

From what number will these text messages display?

You will see 23177 or 63079 as the text messaging number sending you the confirmation message and all subsequent messages. You may choose to save these numbers and program them as Shoreline Community College so that you can quickly recognize this number as an official message from the college.

If I sign up at night, when will I receive the confirmation message?

The confirmation messages are sent between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. PST. Data is uploaded daily, Monday through Friday so you should expect the confirmation request to arrive the following day or on Monday if you sign up over the weekend.

I did not receive a confirmation message. What happened?

Check with your mobile phone service provider to find out if your device accepts text messages and that text messaging has been enabled. You may need to subscribe to a text messaging plan in order to receive or reply to text messages. Such subscriptions may incur additional charges from your service provider.

I did not receive a confirmation message because my phone wasn't text enabled. I have since contacted my mobile phone provider to enable it. Do I need another confirmation message sent?

No. If your phone was already submitted to our database, you should be confirmed to receive messages from Shoreline Community College. However, you may also test to find out by texting the word "SUBSCRIBE" to 23177 or 63079 and you will receive a reply with the following:

[AbbrevName]: This phone number has already been opted in. More info text reply "HELP" or "STOP [Account Code]" to opt-out

How do I opt-out?

You may opt-out at any time by texting "STOP [Account Code]" or "QUIT [Account Code]" to 23177 or 63079.

You may request to begin receiving text messages by texting "SUBSCRIBE [Account Code]" to 23177 or 63079.

If I change mobile phone service providers but keep the same number, do I need to opt-in again?
