SCC Baseball Upsets #1 Ranked Bellevue College 5-0
SCC Baseball Upsets #1 Ranked Bellevue College 5-0:
The Dolphin Baseball Team that was outscored by Bellevue College on Saturday 24-1, struck back on Sunday at Meridian Park in Shoreline, with a 5-0 upset of the #1 ranked team in the NWAACC, Bellevue College in the first game of the day. Lightning almost struck twice, as SCC lead 1-0 after the 7th inning of the second game, but the Bulldogs pulled through with a 4 run ninth to dismantle the hopes of a second upset on the day, 5-2.
In game 1, SCC struck early, scoring two runs in the first and then adding 3 in the 4th for th 5-0 win. Jason Shaw pitched a 2 hit shutout for his first victory of the year. Shaw stuck out just one and walked one, but kept the Bulldogs off stride. He pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the 7th, Bellevue's only threat of the game. Matt Cottingham lead SCC in hitting with a 3-3 game including a double.
In Game 2, Willie Davies pitched 7 shutout innings before allowing a run in the 8th, which tied the game. Davies struck-out 6 and allowed only 1 walk on the day. Ethan Berchet-Hall took the loss for SCC as he started the top of the 9th but could not finish the inning.
SCC was held to 4 hits in the game, but Daniel Cavanaugh and Matt Cottingham had doubles for SCC. SCC pushed across a run in the bottom of the 7th inning, to take a 1-0 lead and the potential of a sweep, but BC came back in the top of the 8th to tie it and then finished it off in the 9th. SCC did scratch across another run in the bottom of 9th, but fell 5-2.
SCC is now 2-23 on the year and 1-11 in the NWAACC Northern Region. Bellevue goes to 24-5 on the season and 10-2 in the region.
SCC travels to Canada next Saturday, to face Douglas College in a NWAACC Northern Region doubleheader and then face the Royals at Meridian Park next Sunday at 1:00 PM.
