MATH LEARNING CENTER

How to Become a Math Learning Center Learning Assistant

Most of the Learning Assistants have taken a number of courses at Shoreline Community College.  It is preferable to have Learning Assistants who have completed the calculus sequence of Math 124, 125, and 126.  However, because there is usually a shortage of students who remain at Shoreline after they have completed the calculus sequence, the Director will occasionally hire Learning Assistants who have completed only the 124/125 or 111/112 sequence.  Learning Assistants must be proficient mathematically and be able to explain concepts clearly.  Additionally, you must be patient and able to work at the rate of the student you are assisting.  If you feel you meet these qualifications, please stop by the Math Learning Center and speak with the Director, or email him at the address near the bottom of the page.

You must have the following items before you can be hired:

bulletauthorization to work in the United States
bulletcurrent transcript showing all mathematics courses taken (unofficial one is accepted)
bulletat least one letter of recommendation from someone who knows your abilities (instructor preferred) or a verbal personal reference from a math instructor
bulletwork forms filled out completely

If you have any questions or problems, please email or call (206-633-6627) the Director.
