10 Steps to Success in the MLC:

1.    Enter the MLC and register with the desk assistant.

2.    Find a seat and work on your homework or projects.

3.   If you have questions, raise your hand and a tutor will be with you as quickly as we possibly can (understand that sometimes it is quite busy).

4.   Make sure you understand what the tutor has explained to you.  If not, feel free to ask more questions or ask a different tutor.

5.    If you would like to borrow a textbook, solutions manual, or a calculator, make sure that you have your student ID with you (you can obtain an ID in the bookstore or library for no charge).

6.    If you would like to receive credit for using the MLC, talk to a tutor about 1-3 credits available for Math 90 or Math 100.

7.    We understand that math can be frustrating and will do our best to help you comprehend the concepts better.  After long periods of studying in the lab, it is a good idea to take a break for food, drink, and fresh air.

8.    Inappropriate behavior is not tolerated in the lab.  These include:  talking loudly about non-math topics (distracting to others who are trying to study or learn), cursing or otherwise rude behavior to the staff or others in the lab, and having your cell phone on (vibrate is okay, volume isn’t).

9.   Other rules include:  Drinks are okay as long as they are in containers that close tightly (we want to avoid costly spills so no cups without lids – including those from Whidbey’s), no food is allowed except on the couches, no small children are allowed (can be very distracting to everyone), and no pets allowed (unless allowed by ADA).

10.  Believe in yourself ... you CAN master the principles of mathematics.
