PHIL 102---
Contemporary Moral Problems

Critical examination of such issues as capital punishment, war and violence, animal rights, environmental degradation, abortion, and discrimination. Students will use basic ethical theory methods of diverse cultures to investigate and critically examine such contemporary moral issues as capital punishment, war and violence, animal rights, environmental degradation, abortion, racial and ethnic discrimination, and injustices related to gender and sexuality. Prerequisite: Recommend successful
completion of ENG 100 or placement into ENG 101. Student option grading.

PHIL 230---
Philosophical Issues in World Affairs

Methods of philosophy applied to issues of affluence, impoverishment, hunger, global environmental degradation, violence and non-violence. Topics will include issues of affluence, impoverishment, hunger, global environmental degradation, violence and non-violence. The views of philosophers from Latin America, Africa and Asia will be analyzed and interpreted, in relation to shifts in the international order. (Formerly
Philosophy 167.) Prerequisites: Recommend successful completion of ENG
100 or placement into ENG 101. Student option grading.
