Listed below are SCC Library frequently asked questions related to the library and its services for students. HOW DO I SET-UP MY LAPTOP TO PRINT IN THE LIBRARY AND COMPUTER LAB?
Directions for wireless printing via SCC's wireless Pharos network are located on Technology Support Services website.

WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE APA AND MLA CITATION GUIDES?
Paper copies of the MLA and APA Citation Guides are located on the on the 2nd floor of the Library on the brochure/flyer stand next to printers and the round brochure/flyer spinner near the elevator. They can also be downloaded from the Library website footer as well as here and the services page of the Library website. Links to: APA - Citation Guide and MLA - Citation Guide.

WHERE IS THE A LOST AND FOUND?
The lost and founds are located at the Library Check-out Counter and in the first floor Computer Lab. The Library is not responsible for the loss of personal items left unattended inside or outside of the SCC Library and Technology Center. The library recommends keeping possessions with you at all times.

WHERE IS ROOM 4214?
Room 4214 is on the second level of the Library and Technology Center, at the back left side of the Library, near the copy room.

WHERE ARE ARE THE COPIERS AND WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE COPIES?
The copiers are located in the back left side of the Library (look for the large green sign). Copying costs .10¢ per side for letter size (8.5" x 11") and .20¢ per side for tabloid size (11" x 17").

TO PAY FOR COPIES

  1. Add money to your student ID account at the gray Value-Add stations (located in the Library and in the first floor computer lab).
  2. Lift the lid to the copier and place the item you wish to copy on the glass aligned in the upper left-hand corner. Close the copier lid.
  3. Swipe your ID card through the ID card reader next to the copy station. The ID reader will then prompt you for your student PIN. The PIN is typically your date of birth, MMDDYY.

    EXAMPLE: If you were born on February 20th, 1982, your PIN would be 022082.

  4. Make any adjustments to size, contrast, duplexing, etc. then hit the copy button.
  5. Please note that if you are inactive for more than 60 seconds in between hitting the copy button you will be logged-off the copy system and will have to re-login.

DOES THE LIBRARY CARRY TEXTBOOKS AND HOW CAN I CHECK TO SEE IF THE LIBRAY HAS THE BOOK I NEED?
The short answer is some. Typically, the Library only carries the textbooks the instructors bring to the Library and put on Reserve for their students. Most Reserve materials can only be checked out for 2 hours.

HOW DO I USE THE WIRELESS NETWORKS ON CAMPUS?

In most cases you can simply open up your laptop, launch a browser, log-in (with student email user name and password) and go – Activate your account. Click for more information on accessing the SCC campus wireless network.

If you are experiencing difficulty in connecting to or making use of a wireless network, please contact SCC's Technology Support Services or visit: Room 4122, first floor of the Library.

HOW DO I PRINT IN THE LIBRARY?
Printing costs .02¢ per page, in both the Library and computer lab.

TO PAY FOR PRINTING

  1. Add money to your student ID account on the gray Value-Add stations (located in the Library and in the first floor computer lab).
  2. Print from the computer as you would normally. The computer will prompt you for a name and a document title (enter anything into these two fields).
  3. The print job will then be sent to the print station. The print stations are located right next to the Library reference desk and in the front and back of the computer lab. Swipe your ID card through the black ID card reader next to print station. The print station will the prompt you for your student PIN. The PIN is typically your date of birth, MMDDYY.
    EXAMPLE: If you were born on February 20th, 1982, your PIN would be 022082.

  4. The print station will then display a list of all the print jobs that are ready to print. Scan the listing for the name and title of your print job. Click to highlight your job(s), and hit the print button.

HOW DO I GET A SHORELINE EMAIL ACCOUNT?
This will allow you to access the Library Research Databases from off-campus and to log-in to the first floor Computer Lab and wireless networks.

All you need is your student ID number (a 9-digit number beginning with "965") and student PIN (the PIN is typically your date of birth, MMDDYY). EXAMPLE: If you were born on February 20th, 1982, your PIN would be 022082.

EMAIL ACCOUNT SET–UP

HOW DO I GET A SHORELINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE ID?
You can obtain your student ID free of charge from the Library's check-out desk. If you lose your ID card, you can get a replacement at the library as well, but there is a $15 replacement charge.

In order to get your student ID you will need to show the staff at the check-out desk another form of picture ID (such as a driver's license or passport) and a copy of your class schedule Call the Circulation Desk if you have questions: 206 546-4556.

HOW DO I RESERVE A STUDY ROOM?
Six study rooms are available in the Library for groups of students. You can make a reservation for use of one of the rooms at the Library's Check-out Counter. In-person reservations only and you must have your student ID card.

STUDY ROOM RULES

  • Reservations can be made up to three days in advance of the requested reservation time (not including weekends or holidays).
  • Availability: blocks of time up to two hours in length.
  • Study rooms cannot be reserved by the same group of students more than twice in one week.
  • Group study rooms are reserved for use by groups of students. Individuals cannot reserve or use these rooms.
  • A reservation will be forfeited if no member of the group shows up to claim their room within ten minutes of their reserved time slot.
  • Any and all conflicts arising related to group study room reservations will be resolved by an available Library staff member. Decisions of this Library staff member will be final.
  • The Library is not responsible for the loss of personal items left unattended in group study rooms. The Library recommends keeping possessions with you at all times.
