International Student Medical Insurance

Shoreline Community College requires that all international (F-1) students carry insurance through the college.

Federal and state laws require that international students maintain adequate health insurance while attending Shoreline Community College. In the United States individuals are responsible for health care expenses themselves. One day of hospitalization can cost thousands of dollars. We offer students a very comprehensive insurance policy giving students access to outstanding medical facilities and provides protection against the substantial costs of health care in the U.S.

We have found that students with their own private insurance often do not have adequate medical coverage benefits to provide them with the best care needed when they are sick or experiencing an emergency. Some private insurance plans also have short lapses in coverage leaving the students without insurance for a period of time. We want to make sure that all our students have adequate coverage and that they are able to get the services they need in the event of an illness, accident or emergency.

The college contracts with LewerMark Student Insurance. The cost of the LewerMark International Student Insurance plan for the 2023-2024 academic year is US $382.65 per quarter. The cost of medical insurance will automatically be included in your tuition and fees. For further information on LewerMark Student Insurance, including information about what’s covered and how to get your insurance ID card, please visit their website (https://www.lewermark.com/shoreline).

F-1 students who will be first-time students in the U.S. may be eligible for extended coverage that starts 30 days prior to the beginning of their program. For all other students, including transfer students, coverage typically begins on the first day of the quarter. LewerMark may be able to provide some additional options for coverage for these students.
