HCI
121 Hospital and Clinic Records
is designed for Health Information
Technology and Medical Coding and Reimbursement Specialist majors
only. Includes lecture and lab. Requires permission of
the instructor before enrolling. (Winter).

122 Clinical Practicum I is
an internship in a health information management/medical record
department in a hospital and is designed for those who have been
formally
accepted into the second year of the Health Information Technology
Program. This course requires permission of the instructor
before enrolling. (Summer)

ESLAB 047 ESL Medical Terminology
is a course team taught by an ESL instructor and myself which is
designed to assist the English as a Second Language
student learn and use basic medical terminology prior to enrollment
in nursing, dental hygiene, medical laboratory technology, health
care information or other medically related career options.
Emphasis on listening, writing, and pronunciation. Next
scheduled term is Winter 2006. Requires permission from the
Essentials Skills Advisor in the Humanities Division before
enrolling.

HCI 223 Statistics
in Health Care is a
hybrid course in which some sessions are on the internet and other
sessions are conducted in class. It is designed for those students who have been formally accepted into the second
year of the Health Information Technology program. Pre-requisites
are completion of the first year of the HIT program including Math 80
Elementary Algebra or higher (or equivalent knowledge as
demonstrated on the ASSET test). (Fall)

224 Management for Health Information Supervisors
is a course
for those students who have been formally accepted into the second
year of the Health Information Technology program. The student must have completed all HCI courses
required in the HIT program or concurrently enrolled to be
eligible. (Spring)

225 Computers in Health Care
this is a hybrid course in which some of the sessions are on the internet and other
sessions are conducted in class. It is designed for students
enrolled in the Health Information Technology
Program, Medical Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Certificate Program
and Dental Business Office Specialist program although others may
enroll on a space available basis Prerequisite
requirements: CIS 105 Business Computer Applications (or
equivalent knowledge) and HCI 121 Hospital and Clinic Records (or
similar experience). (Fall, Spring)

HCI 231 Clinical
Practice II is an internship
in a health information management/medical record department in
hospitals and other health care facilities, and is designed for
those who have been formally accepted into the second year of the Health Information
Technology Program. All first year HIT courses plus HCI 222, 223,
225, and 227 must be completed prior to this practicum. This course requires permission of the
instructor before enrolling. (Winter)

HCI 232 Management
Practicum is a
capstone course in
which students work in teams of 3-5 students throughout the quarter
in which they develop a complete business plan for development of a
Health Information Management Department in an outpatient clinic. 1/2 of the grade is based on the work product and 1/2
is based on effectiveness of the student working as a team
member. The student must have completed all HCI courses
required in the HIT program or concurrently enrolled to be
eligible. (Spring)

Clinical Practice
Handbook HCI 122 AND 231 is
a site that gives detailed information for both site supervisors and
students on the requirements for these two clinical practice courses
for students in the Health Information Technology
Program.
