Frequently Asked Questions

What is GIG?

Get in Gear (GIG) classes combine two degree requirements in one, team-taught class. GIG students take 12 credits together, an experience that can help build friendships and support as you get familiar with college life.

Every quarter we offer a different set of GIG pairings. A study skills class ties directly to what you need to succeed in the block class. In addition, students can take an optional math review class.

Students who place into English 99 or 101 can register for any GIG block classes. Those who start in English 99 will be evaluated and have a chance to get credit for English 101!

How does it work?

GIG puts two professors in the same classroom working together to help students:

  • Learn English and Anthropology, Communication Studies or Biology in Society together
  • Build effective habits for learning with classmates you will know well
  • Connect school with the rest of life

What support is there?

GIG students get special support:

  • Two instructors who work together to help you succeed.
  • Classmates who share your schedule so you can study together.
