Multicultural Studies is a discipline that helps us understand how race, social class, gender, and sexual orientation impact our access to power and privilege. We begin with a focus on where we live and work now, and expand our awareness, knowledge and skills from there.
The 25-credit Certificate in Multicultural Understanding places an emphasis on social action in personal spheres of influence. Especially useful for those in the workplace, this program offers practical and usable skills in multicultural understanding and can be completed in face-to-face courses, hybrid courses, or fully online. The certificate program concludes with a capstone seminar in Social Justice, including a service learning component.
The 15-credit Short-term Certificate in Multicultural Understanding focuses on issues of power and privilege. These skills could enhance your success in a variety of contexts including family, work, and community. Courses can be completed in face-to-face, hybrid, or fully online formats.
*The Multicultural Understanding Certificates are open to all learners at Shoreline Community College and all courses can apply toward the Associate in Arts - Direct Transfer Degree.
