The Commencement ceremony at Shoreline Community College brings joy and pride to graduates, their families and friends, faculty and staff.
Commencement time is coming!
If you plan to graduate Spring or Summer 2014, please submit your Application for Degree or Certificate to Cecily Sherritt, Credentials Evaluator, in the 5200 building before April 16, 2014. Graduation applications for Summer quarter students NOT participating in the June 8th ceremony should be submitted by July 15, 2014.
Also, all planning sheets for professional technical programs need to be signed by both the Program Adviser and the Division Dean and submitted with the Application for Degree or Certificate by the same above deadlines.
Just a reminder that all degree applications have a $20.00 fee that must be paid to the Cashiers Office before an evaluation can be performed. This does not apply to Certificates of Proficiency.
Shoreline's Annual Commencement Ceremony will start at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2014 in the College gymnasium (Building 3000). On the day of the event, graduates should arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. and check in at the lower level of the 3000 (Gym) building.
The ceremony's rehearsal is at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 in the gymnasium. It is important for all participants to be present at rehearsal.
Following the ceremony, there will be a reception in the main dining hall of the Pagoda Union Building (9000) with light refreshments. A setting for photographs will be provided. There will also be opportunities to talk with the commencement speakers, meet college faculty and enjoy the company of other students.
Graduation Caps, Gowns and Tassels
All students participating in the Commencement ceremony need to purchase caps, gowns and tassels available starting May 12th for $29.95 (including tax) at the college bookstore. The deadline for purchase is June 6, 2014 by 4 p.m.
Tip: Make your purchase early for better size options.
Students who need gowns in special sizes should contact the Bookstore as soon as possible at 206-546-4732.
Faculty Caps and Gowns
Faculty, administrators and staff who wish to participate in the ceremony should place their cap and gown order either through Lisa Smith (Room 9301) at 206-546-5862 or online through the Herff Jones website. The deadline to order is April 25th. We encourage you to try the online ordering system first. Here are instructions on how to order online and other pertinent information: Faculty and Staff Cap and Gown Ordering Info.
List of Graduates Participating in the Ceremony
Commencement participation is arranged on the basis of the names of students who purchase caps and gowns at the Bookstore. If you borrow a cap and gown from someone you know, contact Jennifer Mahern at 206-546-4641 or stop by Room 5202A to inform her that you will be participating in the Commencement ceremony.
Commencement is always standing-room-only. Guests (tickets required) should arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. for good seats. Four guest tickets will be offered to students when purchasing the cap and gown. An overflow room with large screen viewing of the ceremony will be available as well.
Tip: Graduates should be prepared to leave personal items such as purses, backpacks, etc. with guests since there will be no secure place to leave them in the gym.
Sign Language Interpreter
An American Sign Language Interpreter will be on the stage during the ceremony. Please let one of the ushers know if you or your guests will need to be seated near enough to see the interpreter. The sign language interpreter will not be broadcast to the overflow room.
Diplomas and/or Certificates will be mailed in August or September for Spring graduates and October for Summer graduates. No diplomas or certificates are awarded until a final graduation evaluation has been made to confirm all requirements have been satisfied.
