Assignment Description: These are content tests on research concepts, resources, and processes as presented in Writing Research Papers (WRP) and other course activities and material related to research skills. The tests may be as short as ten questions or as long as 30 questions. Tests are administered at mid-term and at the end of the quarter. The questions will be multiple choice, true-false, and/or short answer responses.
Here are some sample questions:
Multiple choice
Q: Which of the following would be the best place to find other books written by Neil Postman?
a. The World Wide Web
b. Reserve shelves
c. On-line catalog
d. Periodical indexes
True-False
Q: For consistency, all libraries in the U.S. use the same book classification system, the Library of Congress system.
Q: A keyword search is the same as a subject search and always produces the same results.
Q: Surveys and interviews are often appropriate for academic research papers.
Short Answer
Q: Name some techniques for moving from a broad topic to a more specific thesis. In what specific ways can library resources help you to focus the topic?
Q: What is the difference between a popular periodical and a professional journal?
These are only examples; these specific questions will not appear on the test.

Purpose: This activity is designed to test your knowledge of library and on-line research resources, terminology, and processes.
Criteria: Questions are scored for accuracy in relation to material presented in WRP and other course material.
Format / How to Submit: Blackboard assessment. Notification will be given in course announcements when test is ready.
