education at the University of
Montana, where she did not play basketball,
before she realized it was time
to save money. She came back home
to fulfill her passion for playing post in
basketball. “I was just coming here to
play some basketball after being away
for a year,” said Walentowski. “I just
missed it, and wanted to come back
and play for as long as I can, and make
some friends in the process.”
Growing up, Walentowski was always
involved in sports and practiced
regularly against the guys. Since then,
she’s never come across a sport she
didn’t want to try.
“I was a little jock growing up, I
wanted to play every sport.” said
Walentowski. So I tried basketball and
fell in love with it,”
From that point on, she has dedicated
herself to the game, competing
all of her four years at Bishop Blanchet
High School, before continuing her
collegiate basketball career at SCC.
This year she stepped in and became
the team leading scorer at 15 points
per game. “I’d love to continue playing
here, but I may have other things
I want to do in my life right now,” says
Walentowski,“If it doesn’t happen I
could say I played for as long and as
hard as I could.” Though the SCC girls
basketball team didn’t have the best
record, (5-20 overall, 3-13 in the North
Division), Walentowski still enjoyed
the opportunity to lace her sneakers
and hoop it up.
“I had a great time this year, and really
liked playing basketball again,”
said Walentowski.
Walentowski, whose biggest
strengths are her aggression and competitiveness,
claims her biggest weakness
comes from within.
“My biggest obstacle is me, in that I
am too hard on myself. I’m my biggest
critic,” said Walentowski.
Walentowski plans to pursue and
major in psychology, with hopes
to one day become a counselor for
teenagers.
Whether or not her collegiate basketball
career continues for another
season, Walentowski hopes to be recruited
by a more competitive school,
since she will always have a passion for
basketball.
