here in Seattle? The
Seattle Symphony is an American orchestra based in Seattle that
Gerald Schwarz has been directing
since 1985.
Most of the performances of
the Seattle Symphony are held at
Benaroya Hall, located at Third
Avenue and Union Street, downtown
Seattle.
When you’re at home at night,
why not tune your radio into 90.3
KEXP and dip yourself into a pool
of tonal harmony? The local radio
station broadcasts the Seattle
Symphony’s performances.
The radio station is a good way
to enjoy the music, but attending
a live performance would be better
of course.
These days, tickets to musical
concerts and all other formhs of
performances seem way too expensive
for college students like
us. Broadway musical tickets have
become commonly priced at $120,
but they were $40 10 years ago.
Seattle Symphony runs a special
program for college students that
provides tickets for $10 per concert.
Usual ticket price ranges from
$30 to $120.
To get the $10 tickets, apply for
the “Campus Club Membership”
and arrive at Benaroya Hall one
hour prior to the start of the concert.
A valid ID (Driver’s License or
Passport) and valid student ID are
required. The membership card
will be mailed to your home in a
couple of weeks.
With a $10 ticket, you choose a
seat from the seats that are available
at the time you purchase
your ticket. Most of the Seattle
Symphony’s performances are
held in S. Mark Taper Foundation
Auditorium, which is the main auditorium
of Benaroya Hall. The box
seats on the second floor - aka the
Founder’s Tier - are my favorite.
The musicians are easy to see from
such a short distance away.
If you want a clear sound rather
than a view, sit on the first floor.,
commonly known as the Orchestra
Floor. Thanks to many young people’s
interest in rock and hip-hop
music, seats near the stage may be
easier to find than you expected.
