As each of SCC’s active sports teams enter the final week of their respective seasons, they find themselves looking at the postseason on different terms.
The women’s soccer team still rests on their perch over the rest of the Northwest Athletic Association
of Community College (NWAACC) North Division. The squad has secured a first round bye for the playoffs and hosts their first match in the quarterfinals round of the NWAACC tournament
on November 10. If victorious,
the team will head to Starfire Stadium in Tukwila for semifinals play on the 17. The NWAACC championship game will also be held at Starfire Stadium and is scheduled for November 18.
The men’s soccer team’s recent success has them trying to get themselves a slice of the postseason
pie as well. A draw with division-leading Whatcom and wins over second place Everett and last place Skagit Valley have set the squad up as keepers of their own destiny. A win against Edmonds on November 3 would hurdle Shoreline over Edmonds to a third place standing in the NWAACC North division, good for the division’s final playoff spot and a date with South Division
runner-up Pierce in the first round of the NWAACC playoffs. A loss or draw on November 3, however,
would mean that the team would be watching this year’s playoffs from the bleachers.
SCC’s volleyball team will have to sit out of this year’s playoffs. A loss against Skagit Valley coupled with an Edmonds win on October 31 locked the team into fifth-place in the NWAACC North Division. Only the top four teams from each division made the playoffs, and they fell a little bit short of that cut this year.
