Turn that frown upside down
Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the Seattle cloudy season; but then again, maybe it’s something
worse. About one out of 10 Americans over the age of 18 is diagnosed with depression. Do you have a loss of interest or enjoyment?
Having any difficulties sleeping, eating or concentrating? Plagued by physical pain and addictive
behaviors? All of these can be symptoms of depression, an illness that affects not only your body and mind, but also your ability
to live happily.
Recognizing the symptoms of depression can be your first step towards recovery, Join Shoreline counselors as they offer depression
screenings on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room 5200 in the library. They will offer recommendations and resources to help you on your path to happiness.
What’s in your wallet?
When you add rent, books, tuition
and transportation fees, you barely have enough money left over for food. Also, nothing puts the damper on a Friday night of electric boogaloo like an empty wallet. So how does one deal with the number one stress provider to students’ finances? Karen Einberger, a volunteer with the Washington Society of Certified Public Accounts, will be holding an information session on Thursday,
Nov. 8 from 11:30a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Administration Building
Board Room. The session hopes to teach students how to adopt better financial habits and enhance financial security. For more information, please contact Lynette Peters in the Women’s Center by email lpeters@shoreline.

Coming to a smoke shack near you...
So where can you find the latest
art pieces? The Visual Communications
Technology (VCT) building has some art on its wall. The Administration Building has a gallery that changes its exhibit every once in a while. But remember
the good old days of artists posturing to crowds as to why they are so brilliant? This could be you in the not-too-distant future.
The SCC Art Club has begun to showcase their skills in unusual
locations around campus: the smoking shelters. Seven more murals will be installed in the next few weeks. Visit the shelters
next to the 2000 building, the 1500 building shelter and the shelter next to the Gymnasium for an eye and lung full on this continuing project.
Save Darfur
An Olympic Torch Relay is being organized from Darfur to Beijing and across the United States. Its goal is to gain world support and encourage China to pressure Sudan into becoming a part of the peace-making process towards ending the genocide in Darfur. The Relay will be coming to Seattle on Sunday November 4, and will be held at the Alki Beach and Bathhouse from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
