Are you interested in taking a class on
parent education? Are you looking for a daycare or preschool that you'll
feel comfortable taking your child to? Shoreline Community College offers a
unique parent education program that consists of a child-centered preschool
laboratory setting and adult-centered lectures and discussion groups. The
mission of this program is to support parents as they become directly
involved in their children's education.
Shoreline offers eight different
co-operative preschools to parents who are seeking this type of experience.
A bonus is that you can receive credits through Shoreline for being involved
with one of the selected preschools. Also, since the preschools are
government funded, the cost is only $11 per credit. Tuition per month for
the preschools range anywhere from $40 to $110, which is a fraction of the
cost compared to a typical daycare. Tuition depends on your child's age. The
groups are split into four classifications including Toddler, Pre-3,
Three/Four, and 3-5. This is only based on one preschool's classification's
and is different with each individual school.
The key to a co-operative
preschool is parental involvement. Parents participate once a week in class
with their children, attend the monthly parent meetings, contribute to a
committee throughout the school year, help clean the school, and participate
in fund raising. This is all a small price to pay for the benefits one can
receive when getting involved in a child's education and future. For more
