Letters to the Editor:
Response to "Hate Speech Condoned"
Although Lenin never did say, as Observor of the Times claims, that westerners who support
Communism are “useful idiots”, He did say that “it requires roughly ten pages of print to untangle
and popularly explain ten lines of confusion.” (from “A Caricature of Marxism and Imperialist
Economism” 1916).
The heart of what I wish to address in this letter is the necessity and the right to dissent, what we
mean when we say that we oppose Christian fascism, and what about the Revolutionary Communist
Party, USA?
First of all, Observor of the Times’ letter to the editor is meant to silence dissent on campus and in
our communities. It is exactly at times such as these when the government is entrenched and carrying
out such crimes against humanity as the “War On Terrorism”, increasing police state measures at home,
performing round-ups and detentions of immigrants, waging culture wars aimed at shoving biblical
literalism down the throats of the people, faith-based initiatives that only fund Christian groups at the
same time that social spending is being cut across the board (in essence this will have the effect of
forcing people to either starve, live on the streets, or turn to the church). George Bush openly talks
of the “war on terrorism” as a war that will last generations.
I agree with Malaya Walo of the Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade (the youth group of the
Revolutionary Communist Party) when she said “General Boykin says that we are fighting a ‘holy war’
against the people of Iraq who are the ‘face of Satan’. We say NO! The people of Iraq are our brothers
and sisters, their faces are like ours, we will stand with them!” General Jerry Boykin is one of the top
generals in the US military, he tours the country whipping up congregations to support this reactionary
shit.
Not all Christians are Fascist, not all white people are supremacists, but all forward-thinking people
should unite to oppose both Christian fascism and white supremacism. Most Christians are opposed
to using state power to force their religious beliefs on others — even Observor of the Times does not
agree with the Christian fascists who want to create a Christian theocracy in the US.
The fact is that there is a powerful movement in this country to create a literal Christian theocracy and
we have to call it what it is, that is Christian fascism, these people don’t want to just pray and teach
creationism in our schools, these people want the ten commandments to be the law of the land above
the Constitution. And what would it be like if the ten commandments were the law of the land? In the
ten commandments, women are held as property of men, as are slaves. The punishment for a mouthy
teenager? Death. To quote Republican Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tom
Delay of Texas, “He [God] is using me, all the time, everywhere, to stand up for a biblical worldview
in everything that I do and everywhere I am. He [God] is training me.” Is this the kind of world you
want to live in?

I am a member of Rebel Alliance. I am also a member of the Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade
(Seattle) and I am a huge supporter of the RCP and its chairman Bob Avakian, and I have every right
to be. Observer of the Times suggests that groups like the Rebel Alliance and people like me (a Communist)
have no place on campuses or anywhere else. He insinuates that everyone who pays taxes is opposed
to our kind of critical thinking and dissent and he is wrong. The truth is that every time we go out on
campus we get support and people thanking us for taking the stand that we are against the direction the
leaders of this country want to take all of us, which is back to the dark ages. People on campus and
people across the country are truly frightened by the power grabbing by the executive and judicial
branches and are frightened by what more and more people are coming to correctly identify is the
Christian fascist movement in this country and all that holds in store for them. There is an insidious plan
by the rulers of this country to set themselves up as the world’s preeminent super power for the next
100 years; and in order to do that they are seeking to wipe out any and all dissent, to create a compliant,
unquestioning population.
What we need right now is to not be silent. What we need right now is a massive movement capable
of driving the Bush regime from their seats of power. And as the May Day (International Worker's Day,
a Communist holiday) issue of Revolution (http://revcom.us) said, "Other countries have driven hated
regimes from power — why not here? Is there any country whose direction has a more disproportionate
impact on the future of the whole planet?"
