New Federal Budget Cust-Off Adult Education

Adult students will have to find somewhere else to go if Shoreline Community College
(SCC) cuts its adult education programs by more than 50 classes starting in June 2006
due to federal government cutbacks.
At the end of April, Congress and the Senate decided to cut funding to the education
budget by a more than 70 percent. That represents more than $5.5 million out of
approximately $7.7 million that is currently used by the state of Washington. This

Shoreline Students Gain Recognition at DEC National Conference

Shoreline Community College’s (SCC) own business and marketing club, DEC,
recently attended the 2005 International Career Development Conference in
Anaheim, California.
The main part of the conference focused around the competitive event program
which consisted of 20 events in the world of business and marketing.
Students competed in events that included international marketing,
entrepreneurship, sports and entertainment, restaurant and hospitality
management, travel and tourism, e-business/ecommerce, business-to-business
marketing, fashion/apparel, culinary arts, retail management, sales/sales
management, business ethics, design, and other management and
marketing-oriented areas.

Unlawful Imprisonment
An unknown man told an unknown woman he would give her a ride home from Wendy’s. Instead, he brought her to the campus in his vehicle and would not let her go. A security officer saw the vehicle on routine patrol. The driver quickly exited the campus, and the woman jumped out of the vehicle on Aurora. King County Deputies arrived. Medics treated the woman’s injuries (West of 2100 Building).

Dr. Diego Gavilanes is a man on a mission: to represent people who don’t
always get a fair shake of the stick, the Latin American community. Being a
stranger in a strange land sometimes has its disadvantages. He wants to help
people where he can.
Dr. Gavilanes is a lawyer from Peru who came to campus for a conference on May
11, seeking to help students and members of the Shoreline Community College to
whom English is not the mother tongue, but rather Spanish.
