Yuki Kubo Shiogi, an American betrayed by her own nation, endured her family’s imprisonment during the darkest days of World War II. She lost her freedom and a cherished right of passage, but she never lost faith in her nation or herself. With Honors Denied, a documentary produced by Mimi Gan and Jim Devers of KING TV, follows Yuki’s 60-year journey from persecution to redemption, and weaves a heartwarming, true-life tale of a broken promise, a lifelong regret, and a dream finally fulfilled.
Chizuko Omori will discuss the creation of Rabbit in the Moon, a memoir/documentary of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Through the filmmaking process, Chizuko Omori and her sister Emiko confronted their experiences of being interned.
Produced by Ethnic Studies students from the University of California, Yellow Apparel examines the recent traditions of Asian cultural elements, such as bindis, Buddhist beads, and Chinese character tattoos. It explores the differences between appreciation and appropriation and between supporting the struggle for social justice and objectifying and modifying cultural expressions as fashion trends.
The Pork Filled Players are a local Asian American sketch comedy group who will present two performances of their show Model Minority 101.
