Worker Retraining

This program is designed to assist people who are currently unemployed and need to develop new skills or gain additional training before they can effectively return to work. Through this program, dislocated workers can get help in moving from unemployment into college courses.

The Parent-Child Center offers students, staff, state employees and community members high-quality child care. This nationally accredited program provides full- and part-time care for children age 3 months through kindergarten. The Center is open from 7a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Running Start

In this program high school juniors and seniors take college classes tuition-free while completing high school. The program is designed for students who are ready for college-level work and want classes that apply toward a high school diploma as well as a college degree.

Tech Prep/School-to-Work

High schools, community and technical colleges, and businesses worked together through the Northeast Tech Prep Consortium and a local council to establish this dynamic program. The program helps students prepare for success in today’s technologically advanced workplace. Students receive career guidance, planning tools and an academic focus to make the most of their high school curriculum.

This program was created to help improve employment opportunities for 16- to 21-year-olds who lack a high school diploma. Through professional/ technical and pre-employment classes, students receive job training, develop life skills and learn effective job search and interviewing strategies. CEO pays for tuition, books and supplies.

This program offers classes for students who are not yet ready for college level studies. Students can refresh their basic language and math skills and prepare to take the GED or the ASSET college entrance exam. The classes are free to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or immigrants over the age of 16.

English as a Second language (ESL)

The ESL program provides courses for students who do not speak English as their first language. It includes instruction in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Levels 1-5 are free for U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or immigrants. Levels 6-8 are especially designed to prepare students to succeed in college level classes.

International Programs

The International Programs Office develops and delivers a wide range of programs and services to promote international understanding. The program helps non-resident, visa-holding international students achieve their U.S. higher education goals through admissions processing, immigration advising, placement testing, academic advising and cultural orientation programming. The department connects non-resident students to campus resources such as the International Club and the Global Conversations Club that provide a bridge between International and U.S. students on campus.

This program helps professional/technical students succeed in the campus environment and helps them make a seamless transition from school to work. The goal of the center is to bring together students, staff and the community to promote understanding, respect and appreciation for the diversity we bring to Shoreline. The center offers both educational and cultural resources.

Physical Education

Enjoy weight rooms, racquetball courts, saunas, tennis courts, an outdoor track and a gymnasium at no cost when they are not in use for classes. This facility is available to students, staff and community members from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Student Activities Program

The Student Activities Program offers students a wide variety of opportunities for the development of special talents and interests and assists students in building a support system to help them succeed academically. Special-interest activities and clubs, publications, performing arts, intramurals and athletics, and a variety of organizations are available for students to join. Student government is an integral part of the total college governance structure. The Student Body Association serves as the recognized representative of Shoreline’s students. Many opportunities are available for students to become involved, and while working with students and educators, they develop leadership and management skills. All students are encouraged to participate. Student government elections are held during fall and spring quarters.
