JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE EBBTIDE ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT (A&E) EDITOR
The Arts & Entertainment Editor is responsible for all of the writing related to film reviews, restaurant reviews, play reviews, and literary submissions. He/she works with reporters to commission the stories and see these through to final publication.
This editor maintains relationships with SCC Arts, Drama and Music Departments, on-campus Art Gallery, etc. for story ideas; covers campus events related to A&E. In addition, he/she covers off-campus (A&E) events of interest (e.g. movie, music, events, foods, restaurant, books, art work reviews, etc.); garners graphics to go with stories (from press packets and non-copyrighted images from clip art, movie and other Web sites), and writes to cover arts events.
Part of the A&E workload may include the collating of an arts and entertainment calendar.
The A&E editor must ensure that reporters have free access to films and events. This editor maintains a strong writer pool of contributors from the campus community.
In addition, this editor may solicit creative literary manuscripts from students and select the poetry, fiction, essays, photographs and such to be published in the paper for the "Writer's Block."
Specific Duties:
- Work with writers on A&E content articles and reviews.
- Find graphics for the articles.
- Collate an A&E calendar, if desired.
- Solicit literary manuscripts from students in English courses.
- Select creative writing for publication.
- Read and answer the mail related to A&E work.
- Work with local film distributors, arts companies, organizations, fairs, concert organizers, movie houses, and other places to arrange entry of reporters for reviews.
- Distribute press releases with events for student coverage of arts and entertainment.
