Greetings. My name is Paul Droppelman. I am running for Student Body
President. I've been attending Shoreline Community College since
summer quarter, advancing towards a degree in political science
centered in international affairs. As a student body senator,
treasurer of the Worldly Philosophers' & Dismal Scientists' Society,
and through my experience in the business and public service sectors,
I feel I can efficiently represent your needs through cultural,
intellectual, and social enrichment, and effectively resolving student
issues.
To me a capable leader for Shoreline Community College will have two
important qualities. First, he or she will have the ability to listen
and respond to the wide-ranging needs of a diverse community, and
second, the capability to be a confident decision-maker for that
community.
I will listen to the ideas and criticisms of our community. As the
focal point for student issues, I will work with student government,
the school administration, and most significantly, with the student
body as a whole, ensuring your needs are met.
My objective and purpose is not to do what is best for me, but to do
what is best for the students, you!
They asked me to tell some personal things about me, like:
Favorite Ice Cream: Anything cold
Favorite TV Show: '70s Show
Favorite Word: 'Dumbass'
Role Model or Favorite Famous Figure: Teddy Roosevelt (26th president
of the United States) and Jackie Stewart (3 time F1 World Champion)
Greetings students, staff, and faculty. My name is Erica Wilkes and I am running for the Student Body President.
As a Student Ambassador and a member of Senate, I have had the opportunity to interact with students on a personal basis. As a result, I am well aware of the concerns, needs, and desires of the student body. I am confident that I can articulate these concerns to faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and other bodies. These attributes in addition with my experience in Student Government make me a prime candidate for Student Body President.
During high school, I maintained a 4.0 GPA; played volleyball, basketball, ran track; worked 40 hours a week; and was also active in Student Government. These experiences throughout high school and up to college have given me a sense of responsibility and efficiency, which I plan to utilize as Student Body President.
As a Student Ambassador and a Senator, I thrive on human interaction. I am determined to hear and represent the voice of the Student Body. I hope you will support me in my bid to be a vessel for the students as Student Body President.
Hi my name is Ayanna August, and I am running for student treasurer. I have been at Shoreline since the fall of 2002. My intended major is nursing, so currently I am a pre-nursing student. I am running for this position because I have wanted to be a part of student government and I feel that the job qualifications for treasurer are something I have experience in, because I have worked for two years in Insurance Billing, working with number daily, and rearranging numbers to fit the customers need. I feel I will be an asset to student government, because I like working with other students to improve the educational experience for all students.
I am also running for student advocate because I feel I know what the students want. I interact with student daily, and they inform me of there wants, needs and concerns for Shoreline Community College. So I want to be that voice to speak for the student, so they are properly represented in the student government, because I am an average student just like you.
Hello Shoreline! My name is Carla Magee and I am running for your Associated Student Body Treasurer. I have been at Shoreline since fall quarter and have loved every minute (except finals!) I am currently involved as the Treasurer of Delta Epsilon Chi, known to some as just DEC. During this time I also ran for Washington State DEC Treasurer and was voted in by my DEC peers at our state conference in February. I am also in Student Senate and on the Budget.
During my time at Shoreline I am pursuing my Purchasing Management degree and my transfer degree to try to get into the UW School of Business so that I may major in Business Management.
Prior to attending Shoreline I worked for 10 years in various positions ranging from managing a sub shop to managing millions of dollars for major corporations. I would be honored to manage the money that we as students put in here at Shoreline.
A little bit more about me, I have been married for nearly three years and I have one big fat cat. I love to cook, garden, and spend time with my hubby. If you see me on campus and want to know more about me, come and talk to me, I would happy to chat!
Last but not least, my favorites are:
Favorite Ice Cream - Chubby Hubby by Ben and Jerry
Favorite TV Show - This is a running tie between Friends and Trading Spaces
Favorite Word - This would have to be Pumpkin (that's what I call my hubby!)
My Role Model - Would have to be my mom, she is a very strong woman that taught my sister and I that if you work hard and believe that any thing can happen!
Thank you, Shoreline, for your time; I look forward to talking with you and seeing you all during the election process!
My name is Susan Qiu yang Ding. I am a transfer
student, my major is accounting, and I graduated from
Shorewood high school. I have been attending Shoreline for
almost three quarters.
I am running for Treasurer. I applied for the treasury position because I think this is a good opportunity for
leadership experience, and I also enjoy actively working with others.
I am also very honest, and very responsible.
I will cooperate with other students well, will share my experience with them, and will always make the best plan for every budget.
Favorite Ice cream: (don't prefer any particular brand or kind.) Strawberry ice cream
Favorite TV show: friends. 20/20, BBC news, discover

Favorite actress: Kirsten Dunst
Favorite Famous Figure: William Shakespeare
Role model: Michelle Wing Kwan
Favorite quotes:
Carton, Sidney
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have
ever done: it is a far, far better rest that I go to,
than I have ever known."
Earp, Wyatt and Josephene

loyal as love"
My name is Sara Lundahl and this is my second quarter at Shoreline Community. I'm running for Legislative director and I plan to attend SCC for a little over two years with an intended major of oceanography. Then I'm going somewhere warm! I can bring a positive and fair attitude towards my fellow students at Shoreline Community. My favorite ice cream is strawberry cheesecake from Baskin Robins. Favorite TV show is Punked on MTV. I don't really have a favorite word in English but in Spanish it would be Pura Vida, which means full of life, used frequently in Costa Rica where I was raised. Favorite famous person is Andy Ions for his outstanding career in surfing and his accomplishments last year. He rocks!
My name is Sandie Hazzard and I have been a student at Shoreline since the spring quarter of 2002. I am directing my studies toward the goal of working in the medical profession. I am running for the position of Senate of the Budget Committee. While being a member of the Environmental Club I have had some involvement in issues related to the Student Budget Committee and became interested in this matter. As a mature student I hope to add a stable and sensible element to the decisions made with our budget and having to stretch my own personal budget as a single parent I have had considerable experience.
My name is Nick Aldrich and I am running for the senate. It is my second quarter at Shoreline Community College as I endeavor to complete the prerequisites for the nursing program. I feel that my experience on a church board, social action committees, precinct committeeman as well as father of ten and a previous North Seattle Community College instructor will help me with my goal of bringing divergent views to the senate. I am a retired electrician preparing to start a new career in which I hope to be able to serve the greater community. Being on the senate will also help me accomplish that. I shouldn't have a favorite ice cream so I will call it "vanilla non-fat yogurt". As far as a favorite TV show goes, I will let you know after I get a TV. My one favorite word is "I'll try" (I haven't taken a math class in over thirty-five years). My role model has always been Dr. Albert Schweitzer with Dr. Tom Dooley after that. I hope to hear from you if you have a concern for the student government to address.
As a potential candidate for student senate at this school, I, Erik Goheen, want to make a difference in everyone's education. Although this school runs remarkably well, there is always room for improvement. One of my goals, should I be elected into the student senate would be to help promote the growth of our clubs and student activities.
I have always been interested in how government works. I have been in a government simulation program through the YMCA in high school. This program is designed to teach the world's future generations how the political world works. This knowledge of government will help me become the finest potential candidate.
I have been a student here at shoreline since last fall. My intended major is in the education field. My favorite flavor of ice cream is chocolate-chip cookie-dough. My favorite TV show is Scrubs. My favorite word is talus, a term used in mountaineering to describe fields of lose rock. My role model is Jessie Michaels, the lead singer for the legendary peace-punk band, Operation Ivy.
I encourage all students to vote in the upcoming election who wish for Shoreline to continue to have great student programs.
Hello everyone! My name Alex Oh, and I am running for a position in the Senate on the Constitution and By Laws committee. This is my first year attending Shoreline, and I'm majoring in Biochemistry/Bioengineering. I would like to enhance my college experience by getting involved in the Student Government. Having held leadership positions such as vice president of the Asian and Pacific Awareness Club, secretary of the French Club, treasurer of Amnesty International, and vice president of Knowledge Bowl at Shorewood High School, I am confident to take on this leadership role. Also, I spend time volunteering at Shorewood High School's after school tutoring program and at a pre-kindergarten working with kids. Here are some other interesting facts about myself: I'm involved in track and field (spring and long jump), I enjoy reading, and try to practice my Chinese and French as often as I can. My ultimate goal is to provide the students with a way to have their opinions voiced to the Student Government so as to have a wonderful experience here at Shoreline.
Favorite ice cream: Mocha Almond Fudge and Rocky Road
Favorite TV shows: American Idol, Survivor, and Star Search
Favorite word: Onomatopoeia, just because it sounds cool
Role Model: Marie Curie for her dedication to science and the scientific breakthroughs that she accomplished are remarkable.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...
- Only 156 people voted in last years election?!
- Student Government handles $2 million?!
SCC Interim Director Scott Saunders on why elections are important and why you should vote:
"Student Government controls around $2 million in student funds. Thoughs are budgets for technology, remodling the PUB, and the bulk of it for funding services and activities for students. In addition to allocating those funds and managing those programs, elected representatives also are the students' voice in the governing system. This coming year we'll see a lot of very important issues being addressed by students such as: should we build a parking garage? That would be partially financed by student fees. Parking has been an issue on campus since I can remember.
"The student government can serve as a voice concerning all of the decisions about budget cuts that are made by the state. With issues regarding the budget cuts that we're going through with the state, student government can serve as a voice with the legislature, expressing our concern about tuition hikes and maintaining a quality education by keeping operating budgets reasonable. So they can educate our legislators about the position of students on important issues. It boils down to how good you want your education to be."
