. SCC student places 2nd in Miss Washington Teen USA pageant

      Linda Bro, a Runnign Start student here, finished in second place in the Miss Washington Teen USA pageant on Nov. 25. Bro, a second year student at the College, is now an alternate for representing Washington at the Miss Teen USA pageant, which will be held in February.

      Thought she will not be competing in the pageant, Bro plans to attend and has been encouraged to conpete in the Miss Washington USA pageant next year. "It was on eof the most memorable experiences I've ever had," said Bro.

Delta Epsilon Chi holds book onsignment in PUB

      Delta Epsilon Chi, a business club for students is hosting a book consignment buy and sell. At the Delta Epsilon Chi Consignment Bookstore students can sell old textbooks and buy used textbooks all at reduced prices.

      Students drop off your textbooks that they want to consign between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Dec. 4-11. Students set the price of their book(s) allowing them to get more money for their book(s).

      Delta Epsilon Chi will be located in front of the PUB's inside entrance and will be accepting textbooks that mainly pertain to Business Administrative students. Books will be released for sale during the same time as the drop of dates.

Holiday Open House at bookstore

      The bookstore is planning a Winter Holiday Open house on Tuesday Dec. 4, 2001 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

      Students are invited to come enjoy a variety of finger foods and beverages. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. the Shoreline Singers will perform a variety of songs and Christmas carols directed by Choir Instructor Ron Bigley, and followed by a small instrumental ensemble from the Jazz Band directed by Doug Reid.

      The Bookstore will also be having a year-end sale to make room for our new inventory. A new holiday selection of gifts, stocking stuffers and ornaments will also be made available.

      Donations for the Northwest Harvest Food Drive and the Toys for Tots Charity Drive on Dec. 3-7 will also be collected.

Spindrift magazine seeking submissions and volunteers

      Spindrift, the college's award-winning art and literary magazine, is currently seeking submissions for the 2002 edition. The deadline for submissions is February 2, 2002. Priority will be given to publishing student work!

      Spindrift accepts all forms of writing including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, musical scores, short plays or dialogues (4500 words). Two typed, double-spaced copies are required for each submission, with the exception that poetry may be single spaced. The author's name should not appear on the work.

      Accompany all submissions with an appropriate sized self-addressed stamped envelope for notification and a cover letter including the contributor's name, address, phone number, email, and two to three lines of biographical information with a list of all materials sent.

      Artwork and photography are also accepted. The preferred form for artwork is 5" x 7" transparencies or slides in black and white. There may be limited opportunities for color reproduction. Submit artwork with a card including the information about the artist as described in the previous paragraph.

      Writers and artists are encouraged to become familiar with the magazine before submitting. Previous copies of Spindrift are for sale in the bookstore.

      Spindrift is also looking for volunteers to help in such things as reading submissions, typing the manuscript, and proofreading. English special project credit is available for winter quarter for these activities (one, two, or three credits).

Gallery exhibits work of Alexandra Souldancer

      The paintings, prints and drawings of Alexandra Souldancer will be on display at Shoreline Community College. The exhibit, entitled "E = Motion," reflects Souldancer's experience with performance and her passion for expression and humor.

      A pioneer performance and conceptual artist of the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Souldancer debuts her unique, confessional idiom in paint, collage and marker at this exhibit. The exhibit will run to Jan. 14, 2002 in the College Gallery is located in the Administration Building. "I try to paint with joy, imagination and some courage," says Souldancer. "My pictures are suggestions of movement, activity of the natural and emotional world, as well as sometimes being very funny." Some of her work can be viewed at her web site at www.alexsouldancer.com.

      Souldancer grew up in Columbia, Missouri, where she staged yearly theater and opera productions from ages 8 to fifteen. Her mother was a painter and her father was a college music instructor.

      Souldancer graduated with honors from American University in Washington, D.C. and Washington University in St. Louis. She was awarded scholarships from Yale Art School and Washington University. Her work is held in private collections in many American cities, including Washington, D.C., New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, Columbia and Seattle. Her work has been publicly shown at Seattle's Gay Pride Art Show for several years and at the Henry Art Gallery.

      The College Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
