Where my barstool molds to my butt
.

If I had a second living room it would probably be The Pub at Piper's Creek. Located on the west side of Greenwood Avenue a half block north of Homan road, the Pub doesn't have a big flashy sign out front, nor does it need one. Business for the Pub comes from word of mouth. Friends tell friends, they tell their friends, and pretty soon you have a barroom full of familiar faces. The good vibes put out by this place can be attributed to the way its owners choose to run it. Charlene Iverson and Joseph Perry are a wife and husband team that treat their bar and its patrons like home and family.

The Pub, like all pubs, serves no hard liquor. They have twenty-one micro and macro-brews on tap. Names like Guinness, Maritime Pacific, and Pyramid line the impressive row of levers in the middle of the bar. As well, several beers, ciders, and hard lemonades can be found in bottle form. There's also a fairly impressive wine selection for anyone who can't stand the taste of beer (I know, its sacrilege).

Also, the menu at the Pub is as diverse as the beer selection, from the delicious salmon burger to the hefty serving of pub style nachos with your choice of beef or chicken as a topping, there should be something for everybody. There's a full menu until eleven p.m. just in case you need to soak up some alcohol before you make your way home.

As for things to do after you've got your beer or something to eat; the pub comes fully equipped with three pool tables, two dart boards, and a couple of arcade games. Two of the pool tables are bar room size, but the third is regulation and can be rented for a reasonable hourly rate. The Golden Tee arcade game always seems to draw a couple of guys away from the bar and their quarters, and the touch screen gaming machine can be entertaining if you came in alone only feeling like being heckled by a computer all night. Furthermore, the Pub comes equipped with shelves of board games, card decks, and other non-electronic games in case you and your friends want a change from the regular bar activities.

My only complaint of the Pub would be in the form of a plea for younger selections of music in the jukebox. Of course, I am a music snob and know that some of my musical tastes are pretty obscure. Given, names such as Sublime, Bob Marley, Modest Mouse, and the Strokes do grace the pages of the bar jukebox, it would be nice to have a better selection of music that accommodates some of the Pubs younger patrons. And, some advice for the unsuspecting music fan who does decide he is worthy to pick the music for an entire bar, stay away from Dick's Picks (The Grateful Dead). Some of the songs on this album can labor on for more than ten minutes, and I stress the word labor.

The whole vibe of the Pub can be summed up by what it says on the bathroom and office doors. The women's bathroom reads "Goddesses," while the men's aptly states "All others," and right next to both of those the office states "Game warden."

There is a light-hearted happy vibe to the Pub. As part-owner Charlene states "It's the kind of place that a woman can come in by herself and feel safe." She also made it clear how much her and Joseph care about the safety of their patrons after they leave the bar. She said if someone is noticeably too drunk to drive home they will persuade them to call a cab or even call a cab for them. This just shows that's it not just a business for them, that they also enjoy their establishment and the people that frequent it.

The Pub at Pipers Creek isn't just a place to get drunk, it's a place get out of the house and meet new people. It's also the closest thing Shoreline Community College has to a local bar. It's the perfect place to bring a bunch of friends, get something to eat, have couple drinks, talking yourselves silly until two in the morning. And, if you want to call it your second living room also, I don't mind sharing.
