Reflections on the Events of 9-11 Students and the local community are invited to a special presentation entitled "Is Peace between Israel and Palestine Possible? Reflections on the Events of 9-11". Farhat Ziadeh, University of Washington Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and Rabbi James L. Mirel of Bellevue's Temple B'nai Torah, will discuss the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian issue and the impact the September 11 terrorist attacks have on the future of the Middle East peace process. Professor Farhat Ziadeh is a Christian Palestinian who has spent his career studying the Middle East. He moved to the United States with his family following the creation of the Israeli State in1948, was educated as a Barrister-at-Law in the United Kingdom in the 1940s, and has remained a lifetime advocate of peace and reconciliation in the Middle East. Professor Ziadeh was instrumental in the 1995 organization of the Palestinian-Concerns Task Force for the Church Council of Greater Seattle. James L. Mirel grew up in New York and graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He was ordained as a Rabbi in 1974 from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio. For nearly thirty years, Rabbi Mirel has served Temple B'Nai Torah, a faith community committed to authentic Judaism in the Reform style. Rabbi Mirel is a longtime proponent of peace in the Middle East. He is a recognized speaker on inter-faith cooperation and understanding. This special event follows a series of presentations and information sessions sponsored by Shoreline Community College to increase the campus community's understanding and awareness of international issues related to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Admission to this event is free. Call (206) 546-6916 for more information.
