·        2001- present: Full-time tenured Geology instructor at Shoreline Community College.

·         1999-2001: Partial time (80%) faculty at Highline Community College.

Teaching experience and responsibilities:

·        Fall 01-present: Geology Instructor at Shoreline Community College, Seattle, WA. Courses taught: Physical Geology, Geologic Hazards, Geology of National Parks, Geology of the Pacific Northwest.

·        Fall 97-Spring 01: Geology Instructor at Highline Community College, Des Moines, WA. Taught multiple times a variety of introductory geology courses including Physical Geology, Geologic Catastrophes, Origin of Landforms, and Geology of National Parks.

·         Spring 99-Spring 2001- Coordinator of the Science Tutoring Program at Highline Community College. 

·         Summer 1998: Co-taught: Geology of the Colorado plateau, an upper division, 4-week field class on the geology of the Colorado Plateau.

 

 

Program and curricula development and campus-related professional activities (Fall 2001-present):

·         Designed, developed and taught a new course, Geologic Hazards, focusing on the geologic hazards of the Pacific Northwest (Fall 01-present)

·         Revised and redesigned curriculum for Geology of National Parks (Spring 2003).

·         Designed and developing curriculum for a new interdisciplinary course, combining Geology of National Parks and English, Taught for the first time fall 2004.

·         Published third revised edition of Laboratory manual for Physical Geology (2003).

·         Developed and maintained Blackboard websites for all geology courses taught at Shoreline Community College (Fall 01-Present)

·         Created (and continuously updated) complete sets of PowerPoint presentations for lectures in all geology courses taught (Fall 01-present)

·         Participated yearly in several professional development workshops on campus and national and international conferences (Fall 01-Present; see below).

·         Coordinator for facilities and equipment needs for the EYH conference (2003 and 2004).

·         Participated in the planning of the “Expanding your Horizons” (EYH) Conference as member of the organizing committee (2002).

·         Member of the Renovation Committee for the 2900 building (Winter 2002-Fall 2004).  Played a major role in the planning for the re-design of the geology lab facilities and in the move out of the building before construction began (summer 2003).

·         Active member of several campus committees (Expanding your Horizons Committee, Technology Committee, Interdisciplinary Study Committee, Critical Thinking Assessment Group, Retreat Planning Committee (for 2 years), Professional Development Fund Committee).

·         Lead Shoreline CC students to local field trips to explore sites of regional geologic hazards (Winter 02-present), including a 3-day overnight-field trip to the Olympic peninsula as part of the Geology of National Park course (Spring 2003).

·         Participated in “Science Night”, a science fair at Lake Forest Park elementary school, presenting an interactive exhibit on rocks and minerals (Winter 2002 and 2003).

·         Taught a Continuing Education Class on Pacific Northwest Volcanoes for Senior Citizen as part of Shoreline CC Winter College 2002.

·         Responsible for the organization, implementation and management of the geology laboratory and mineral and rock collection at Shoreline CC including supervision of a work- study student (Fall 01-Present).

·         Advised students interested in pursuing a career in Earth Science about job opportunities and transfer options and requirements (Fall 01-Present).

 

Before Fall 2001

·         Organized and lead Highline CC students on several Northwest field trips including Mount St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Olympic Peninsula, Columbia River plateau, Seattle fault (Fall 97-Spring 01)

·         Developed, organized and co-taught a summer field course on the geology of the Colorado plateau (Summer 98)

·         Developed the Science Tutoring Program at Highline Community College, including developing and teaching a training course, recruiting, coordinating, supervising and evaluating science tutors at Highline Community College (Fall 99-Spring 01)

·         Daily application of instructional technology to classroom presentations and teaching. Includes extensive experience in creating multi-media PowerPoint slide presentations (including animations and video-clips).

·         Daily use of MS-Word, Excel, Adobe Illustrator and other graphic editors, to manage teaching-related documents, grades etc.

 

Training and professional experience in Geology and Environmental Science.

·         1992: Certified expert in Environmental Impact Assessment by the professional training school of the regional government of Lazio (Rome, Italy).

·         1992-1993: Consultant as professional geologist for environmental impact statement assessment, geomorphology and hydrology studies for 3 geology firms in Rome, Italy.

 

Most relevant research experience:

·       1992-1997: Department of Geological Sciences, University of Rome, Italy

   Conceived and executed original scientific research in volcanology applied to volcanic areas of Italy, Greece and the U.S. Extensive research experience with geologic mapping, stratigraphy, textural, petrographical, sedimentological and chemical analysis of volcanic rocks.

   Developed a novel technique for electrochemical analysis of trace elements in rock samples and produced and published a technical guide illustrating the experimental procedure.

·         1995: Research activity at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Supervisor: Prof. Richard V. Fisher. Field research on the Bishop Tuff, Long Valley, CA.

·         1995: Participated and provided logistical support for a U.S. Geological Survey/Los Alamos National Laboratory joint research project in Vulcano Island, Italy.  Project involved sampling of volcanic gasses from active fumaroles.

·         Participated in several international volcanological conferences and workshops with field excursions to foreign volcanic areas including all volcanic regions of Italy, Santorini, (Greece), Kappadocia (Turkey), Long Valley, (U.S.).
