Shoreline Community College is part of the
Washington Online
(WAOL) consortium,
a cooperative effort by Washington's 34
community and technical colleges to deliver coordinated online
instruction. To learn more about WAOL, visit the WAOL Web site at
www.waol.org.
Washington Online courses are conducted
completely online. They have start and stop dates, regular assignments
and project due dates, but students can work at the time and place
most convenient to them. These features make WAOL courses more
convenient than face-to-face courses, but
they are not easier. Because online courses are delivered at a
distance, they are reading and writing intensive. Even though
attendance is not required at a specific time, students will need to
spend time in the virtual classroom five out of every seven days and
plan on 12 to 15 hours of class work each week for each course.
Here's how WAOL
works:
- All WAOL
courses are taught via the Internet.
WAOL courses are delivered with the Blackboard online learning
environment.
- WAOL courses are taught by consortium faculty from all over the
state. This means your instructor might be in Spokane, and
your classmates might be in Yakima, Olympia, or Ellensburg.
-
Students register for WAOL online
courses through Shoreline Community College. Students
can register for a WAOL class up to the Saturday before the SCC
quarter begins;

here to register for a WAOL class.
Shoreline collects tuition, grants course credit, and confers any
certificates or degrees.

started in your WAOL course, go to
WAOL Get
Started.
Note: WAOL operates on a slightly
different schedule than Shoreline, in order to accommodate
all the community colleges who participate. The first day of class for
WAOL begins on a Thursday, usually the same week that Shoreline begins
instruction. WAOL students can always
look up your class in
the
WAOL schedule to
check for class dates and details.
