Final Course Evaluations for Online Classes

Note: Official evaluations for online classes are administered through eLearning Services.  If you are not scheduled for an official evaluation for an online class (per the faculty contract) and would rather administer an evaluation yourself in your own Bb classroom, then please feel free to use / adapt the surveys.  You also might adjust these surveys to assess a hybrid or face-to-face class that uses Blackboard.  To get a copy of the surveys in Blackboard format, please request instructor privileges in the following Bb classroom:  "Evaluation Sample Classroom."  That classroom has copies of these and other sample surveys with instructions on how to export them to your own Bb classroom.  Let us know if you need help in learning how to use the Survey tool in Blackboard to administer your own survey.

Please review the final course evaluation forms and decide which one you would like to use to evaluate your online class:

* Form J (the shorter form), or
* Form K (the longer form).

Then, fill out the Course Evaluation Request FormPlease send in the request at least 2 weeks before the evaluation is to be made available to your students to allow for processing time.

Once you have filled out the request form, please let your students know that they will see a new Blackboard classroom show up under the "courses in which you are enrolled" listing in Blackboard on or before the dates you have specified in the course evaluation request form.   If the classroom shows up before the dates you have specified, the students will see only the name of the class but access into the classroom will be denied until the dates you have specified.  They will see something like this:

Final Course Evaluation for Instructor's Last Name, Class Name and Number, Section Number, Quarter.

Example:  Final Course Evaluation for Garnsey-Harter's Eng 101, Sec N1, Spring 2008.

Once they have access to this new Blackboard classroom, your students will see only one item that says:

Final Course Evaluation
This online survey will provide you with an opportunity to evaluate your online class as well as your instructor. All information submitted from this survey is anonymous.

Students just need to click on this "final course evaluation" link to get into the course survey.

To ensure complete anonymity for the students, you will not be placed as an instructor into the new Blackboard evaluation classroom.  You can double-check the availability of your evaluation, however, by logging into Blackboard using this fake student account:

Username:  evalstudent
Password:  password

When the evaluation has closed, this fake student will be removed from the classroom and the
results for your real students will be printed.  After the quarter has ended, one copy of the results will be forwarded via intercampus mail to the VPAA Office to keep on file, one copy to your Division Dean, and one copy to you.
