EN GARDE! FENCING--NEW

Fencing is a unique sport that promotes active problem solving and the use of strategy. Developing fencing skills leads to improved balance, speed, reaction time, increased accuracy and greater cardiovascular health. Learn the objectives and rules of foil, epee, and sabre fencing. Concepts will relate to balance and center of gravity so students can make the most of speed, reaction time, change of direction and ability to react appropriately in offense or defense. Students should wear athletic running shoes and long pants; equipment including protective gear, provided. Instructor is an Olympic fencing athlete and trainer.

TAI CHI: KUANG PING YANG STYLE—INTERMEDIATE--NEW

A beautiful slow moving, expansive form of Tai Chi that weaves an energy pattern of serenity, harmony and balance with "effortless effort" through the simple act of breathing in and breathing out. This class is for those who want to build on the basic level. Barbara Gleisner is with the Ling Gui International Healing Qigong School and has practiced and taught Tai Chi Chuan for seven years. Wear comfortable clothing; no class 4/16.

BAMBOO MOUNTAIN QI GONG

An ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention, Qi gong can reduce stress, build stamina and enhance the immune system for the health of the entire body. Encompassing the strength of the Mountain and the flexibility of the Bamboo, the practice of Bamboo Mountain Qigong begins with a ten-part warm up followed by an eight-part form. Wear comfortable clothing to class. Wear comfortable clothing; no class 4/16.

YOGA CONDITIONING

This basic class combines Hatha Yoga with core strengthening Pilates mat exercises. Meditation, alignment, balance, flexibility and strength are qualities of Hatha Yoga. Students wil learn basic poses (asanas) and sequences (sun salutations).  The Pilates mat exercises strengthen, stretch and lengthen your muscles and emphasizes moving from your center. This class will develop your abdominal strength, improve your flexibility, and bring awareness to your daily body movement. Come with an empty stomach, bring a mat (yoga style preferred) and wear comfortable clthing.  All levels welcome.

KUNDALINI YOGA  

Kundalini Yoga assists students in reestablishing the body-mind-spirit connection to feel whole and complete. After each class we will feel both energized and at peace. Each class will involve a complete set of techniques (breath, sound, movement, posture, rest) for maximizing healthful functioning at the physical, mental and emotional levels.   Bring a thick mat, blanket, and water bottle.

BELLYDANCERCIZE - BEGINNING

Creative and Fun!! Basic bellydance movements, finger cymbals, tummy undulations and conditioning and strengthening exercises are part of the instruction. Health benefits include improvement in posture and flexibility, strengthening and coordination of muscle groups in the trunk, improved self image, spine and arms which help prevent lower back pain. Zaphara is the director of her own Dance troupe, a master instructor and entertainer and currently performs at three ethnic restaurants in the Seattle area. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel.

BELLYDANCERCIZE- INTERMEDIATE

Now that you know how fun this exercise can be, continue to build strength and practice your movements with cymbal accompaniment. Add new movements including veil, hip and shoulder shimmies and music interpretation.

FINDING FLEXIBILITY

Use innovative “mind-body” exercises to loosen and lubricate stiff joints and muscles while learning to move with less pain and more efficiency.  Free yourself from limiting posture and motion habits by applying some simple techniques that can be practiced anytime with on-the-spot results.  This workshop is for anyone who likes to golf, garden, dance, bike, hike, or simply move with more ease, grace, and comfort. Instructor is a guild certified Feldenkrais® teacher with a background in dance and pilates. Bring a mat or blanket and wear comfortable clothing.

REIKI FOR SELF HEALING

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a relaxation technique of Japanese origin. It is accomplished through gentle touch, or with the practitioner’s hands slightly above the body. A warm and soothing energy flows from the hands of the practitioner into the recipient, releasing tension, creating relaxation, and facilitating healing. Treatment with Reiki benefits children and adults suffering from chronic conditions, those undergoing medical procedures such as surgery or chemotherapy, as well as anyone who wishes to improve or maintain good health. Completion of this class will enable the student to treat him/herself and family members with Reiki. It is not meant for those who wish to become Reiki practitioners.   ESSENTIAL BICYCLE MAINTENANCE

Ready to ride this spring? Then it’s time to learn to work on your own bike!  This hands-on class will cover basic bicycle maintenance which includes--but is not limited to--fixing flat tires; adjusting and installing brakes; adjusting front and rear shifting; adjusting handlebars and saddle; repairing and replacing chain; and installing accessories. You must bring your own bicycle and tools (an inexpensive list of a few essential tools will be provided prior to the class), and wear appropriate clothing. Why pay for a tune-up when you can do it yourself?  Meet in front of Third Place Books at Lake Forest Park Towne Center and we'll go to our work area.
